“Mr. Elysian- 

Sawyer pushed open the office door and entered, holding a phone. He looked at Alex behind the desk and said. “It’s a call from Silverstone Hospital about the public welfare medical examination activity we conducted last month. They are asking if we want to continue the next session.” 

Alex, who was originally reading a contract, took the phone handed over by Sawyer. 

Aether Corporation had put a lot of effort into public welfare recently for the sake of the company’s 

public image. 

As he answered the phone, he heard a commotion on the other end, followed by a voice saying, ” Sorry. Mr. Elysian. I’m dealing with something here, so it might be a bit noisy.” 

Alex nonchalantly responded with an ‘mmhmm‘, but the person continued. “There’s quite a conflict between family members this time. It has escalated to the point of calling the police.” 

The person on the other end paused for a moment and continued, “Speaking of this patient, your uncle was the surgeon back then. The old man was recovering quite well originally but suddenly 

passed away now.” 

Before he could finish his sentence, Alex’s cold and deep voice interrupted, “What did you just say? 

“I said, your uncle performed the surgery on this patient. The elderly person who needed a cranial 

surgery-” 

“Go on.” 

Even after hanging up the phone, Alex’s expression remained terrifyingly cold. 

In the meantime, at Silverstone Hospital. 

After arguing for a while, Ivor and Yvonne were brought into the office by hospital security. 

The outside voices gradually quieted down. Candice leaned over her grandfather’s bedside, staring blankly at the elderly man who seemed to be peacefully asleep. 

She continuously rubbed the hand placed by the bed. The warmth of her grandfather’s skin was fading away, and the last trace of warmth gradually dissipated. Regardless of how she kneaded, his hand remained cold.

Dressed in all black, Alex’s figure was blurry to Candice. She couldn’t see his expression clearly, just a vague outline. 

Staring in his direction, Candice looked blank. Her eyes lacked focus, her eyes were red, and her face was filled with extreme despair. 

After a moment, she released her grip on her grandfather’s hand, suddenly dropping down. She softly called out his name. 

“Alex.” 

He responded with a grunt, and Candice stopped, saying, “Grandpa’s hand is so cold. He’s not feeling well. He gets joint pain when it’s very cold. Do you think he’s uncomfortable now?” 

Her tone seemed casual, but her throat was choked up. In just two sentences, she stopped several times before managing to complete them. 

When she asked, there was a hint of confusion in her tone, as if it were just a simple question. 

But she didn’t need an answer. 

She was just wondering. 

She was just worrying. 

Alex’s throat was dry, and he didn’t speak.

to leave the ward. 

But before leaving, he paused and looked back at Candice, softly reminding her. “Dr. Brooks has retrieved the surveillance video. You can go watch it yourself.” 

Candice, upon hearing his words, showed no reaction and remained motionless, still kneeling in 

place. 

Alex looked again at the old man lying on the hospital bed. He solemnly bowed slightly before turning to leave. 

Outside the door, Vince was already waiting for him. Upon seeing him come out, he asked, “Can 

we go in now?” 

Candice was a bit quicker than they expected. Though her complexion still wasn’t great, she calmly followed Vince to complete the formalities. 

After completing the procedures, Candice looked up at Hanley and asked, “What about those two?” 

She was referring to Ivor and Yvonne. 

Hanley replied, “The police just arrived; they are in the office now.” 

Candice nodded and headed toward the office. 

Her face was pale, and her figure was fragile. From behind, she looked as though she might 

collapse at any moment. 

Hanley had no time to think much and quickly followed. 

Someone, however, was faster than him. Alex walked straight toward Candice with an 

expressionless face. 

Hanley furrowed his brows, but the current situation wasn’t suitable for saying much. He stared at 

Alex’s departing figure for a moment before following suit. 

Before reaching the office, they could already hear Ivor’s shouting and Yvonne’s mournful cries 

from inside. 

Candice didn’t stop for a moment and went straight into the office. She looked at the sitting police officer and spoke in a calm tone, but her voice was hoarse, “I want to sue Ivor for attempted 

murder.” 

Ivor jumped up upon hearing this. “Nonsense! I just came to see my father–in–law. To hell with your murder!”

Ignoring him, Candice then turned to Yvonne and asked bluntly, “Did he commit murder, or are you 

an accomplice?” 

Yvonne was stunned, her face covered in horrifying wounds. She looked at Candice for a while without saying a word. 

Without giving her time, Candice continued, “Police officer, I’ll file a joint lawsuit. The hospital has 

surveillance, and the caregivers are witnesses.” 

As soon as she said this, Ivor realized that Candice was serious. 

He immediately interrupted her, “Police officer, don’t listen to her nonsense. I really came to see my father–in–law. She–she just wants to deliberately frame me, that’s why she’s saying this!” 

“I just… just thought he was too bored staying alone in the ward, so I wanted to take him out for some fresh air!” Ivor blurted out, “I didn’t know that thing couldn’t be pulled out. In the beginning, I 

could still hear him talking. I thought it would be fine after a while—” 

While he continued to babble incoherently, he basically confessed to everything. He kicked 

Yvonne, who sat beside him, and said, “You foolish woman, say something! I’m about to be 

wrongly accused of murder by your daughter!” 

The office became chaotic. Candice turned around in silence, but when she looked up, she almost 

bumped into someone. 

She paused for a moment, then raised her eyes. Her face showed no expression, but her eyes vere like a desolate wasteland, devoid of any light, hollow and dead. 

She was just looking at Alex.
