My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s) novel Chapter 529

Alex's voice was hoarse, and his tone was unlike anything before. Candice knew he was drunk.

She wanted to push Alex away, but there was no way. Hence, she could only maintain this difficult position and say, "Alex, you're drunk."

"Mmm, I know." Alex's hand, which had been caressing her neck, slowly fell, then stopped at her back.

Candice closed her eyes. She said, "I heard about the matter with Aether Corporation..."

Before she could finish, he pinched the soft flesh around her waist. His voice was muffled, and the hot breath between his words brushed against Candice's skin. "I don't want to hear it."

"You came to find me, so besides these meaningless matters, do you have anything else to say?"

With his eyes closed, Alex pressed Candice against the door. The door blocked out the chaos outside, but it also made the already narrow room even narrower.

Alex asked her, " I don't want to hear about work, Daniel, Hanley, and those things and people. You only talk about these things in front of me, don't you have anything else to say that I like?"

Candice pursed her lips slightly and reminded him, "You're really drunk. I can call Sawyer or Sieg to come."

"What if it's Justin?" Alex suddenly asked, his hand unconsciously trembling as it pinched Candice's waist, lifting his eyes abruptly to force her to meet his gaze.

"Sieg just mentioned that Justin is coming back. What will you say when you see him?"

She paused and asked him, "Why should I say anything to Justin?"

She keenly felt that something was wrong and remembered Sieg's mention of Justin just now.

Alex's fingertips stiffened, a black storm brewing in his eyes, but he quickly suppressed it and lowered his voice, "You were with Justin before, you liked him."

He paused and added, "At that time, we were still together."

Candice was stunned, then furrowed her brows. She forcefully pushed away Alex's restraint, her eyes glossy from the kiss earlier.

Her words were stripped of emotions, and only coldness and mockery remained.

She stared at him. "Alex, do you think everyone is as dirty as you?"

"Who told you that I was with Justin? Are you trying to humiliate me with such disgusting things, or are you humiliating yourself?"

Candice now understood why Sieg had that expression when he mentioned Justin just now.

She closed her eyes, feeling nauseous.

If Sieg hadn't mentioned Justin's name just now, she would have almost forgotten about him.

But now that she thought about it, it made her uncomfortable.

Justin was the first client she had dealt with back when she was working under Francis.

A notorious playboy with no real skills, he was keen on various indulgences and womanizing.

Candice was naive back then and naturally became his target.

She had applied several times to be replaced by someone else, but Francis had always refused as Justin's interest in Candice was growing.

When Alex heard her answer, he was stunned, a moment of confusion in his eyes. He subconsciously explained, "I'm not wronged, but..."

"Are you... are you telling the truth? You and Justin weren't together and you didn't like him?"

Candice felt a surge of frustration rising from her heart. She endured it and asked Alex, "Is there something wrong with my brain? How could I like someone who harassed me and had ulterior motives against me? Do you not know what kind of person Justin is? A person who is rotten to the core! Why would I like him?"

She finished, laughing self-mockingly. "I don't blame you. After all, I have poor judgment. I could be together with you for so long. What is Justin to me? Besides, Justin gave me a decent breakup fee after we split. What do you have to offer? You're right, being with you is not as good as being with Justin."

By the end, she was completely retaliating out of spite.

Since Alex thought there was something between her and Justin, she might as well tell him.

Alex's face first showed a moment of dumbfoundedness, then that lost and regained joy. But soon, after hearing what Candice said, it turned into a bottomless pit of pain.

He grabbed her hand and his voice choked, "Don't say that. I was wrong, it's my fault. Don't say that, you won't be with anyone else, I know."

Alex held Candice's hand as if he could only hold her tightly like this.

Although she was right in front of him, he always felt as if there were thousands of mountains and rivers separating them. He had always been confident in his ability to handle everything, so he was good at concealing his emotions and planning. He could suppress his emotions deep in his heart.

But now, he couldn't think of any solution. He didn't know how to keep Candice by his side or how to face her mocking gaze.

It was like clutching a handful of sand in his palm; he thought the harder he squeezed, the more he could retain, but in reality, the harder he squeezed, the faster the sand slipped away.

Alex had never felt so panicked in his heart. But he had a terrifying thought rising from the depths of his heart. He feared he might truly lose Candice.
