Chapter 252 Marvin Comes Out
Hearing Donahue’s words, Janet blinked and said half–jokingly, “Donahue,
you will spoil me.”
Donahue raised his eyebrows and showed a fierce and domineering air. He
said, “You are my sister. Who dares to say that you are spoiled?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the new attending came in for Janet’s daily
check–ups.
The smile on Donahue’s face disappeared at once, and he became serious
again.
The wounds on Janet’s body hurt from time to time. Although it was not
serious, and she used the most effective medicine, the pain was very
torturous, which was a bit too much for her.
Donahue looked at her pale face. Even though she did not cry out in pain
even for once, he saw how much she was suffering, and he became
gloomier.
He thought, if I see the mercenaries who hurt her, I’m going to skin them. I’ll
show them who is the person they can never lay their fingers on! They aren’t
even allowed to look at her!
Janet did not know what he was thinking. She pursed her lips and waited
silently for the attending to leave. Then she said indifferently, “Donahue, you
must have traced the mercenaries who wounded me, right?”
“Of course.” Donahue’s voice was low and indifferent, which was inexplicably
chilling. “They were just a bunch of trash. You don’t have to worry.”
Janet smiled helplessly when she heard his words, “No, Donahue… I mean,
take it easy on this one.”
Donahue looked at her, his eyes deep. He remained silent.
“I have a theory about the one behind the scenes, but I’m not sure. So,
Donahue, don’t make a move for the time being.”
In fact, Janet couldn’t be sure about those people’s backgrounds, but she
could be sure of one thing. She was their target.
They were ruthless, and their goal was clear.
There was a good chance they planted the witness‘ location to lure her there.
In Canada, many people went out with guns. If she died here, it would be
easy peasy to make her death look like an accident or a robbery.
A great conspiracy slowly took shape in her mind.
“Bang!”
The door of the ward was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
“Wouldn’t it be too easy for those people if we don’t make a move?”
Janet was spooked by the sound of the door, and her thoughts were
interrupted. She looked back, and the darkness in her eyes was immediately
replaced by joy.
“Marvin?”
Marvin walked in calmly.
Marvin was the second son of the Smedley family. Unlike Donahue, he was
not that decisive in the business field, and unlike Beacher, he wasn’t that
carefree.
He preferred to fiddle with his things at his place every day, causing him, a grown man, even fairer than a girl. His eyes were gentle but sharp, and his
Marvin stroked his nose and thought, great. Now everyone hates me. Both
Jill and Donahue think I’m being too harsh.
Janet stopped smiling, and a trace of coldness flashed through her eyes. “Clearly, those mercenaries belonged to some organization. However, why would organized mercenaries go through all the trouble just to kill me, a
woman? Unless… There’s someone else behind them!”
“What do you want to do?” Donahue said with a hint of admiration in his eyes.
“Sit tight for now. Anyway, that place should have been locked down by Canadian police by now. We can’t do anything right now.
“Besides, there are still some things I have not figured out. I think we need to
look at the bigger picture,” she said, pondering.
Marvin nodded. A few seconds later, he frowned and said, “You’d better not
go abroad anymore. Leave anything with us. The thing that happened this
time is so dangerous for you.”
Janet smiled guiltily, and she cupped her hands fawningly. She said, “I’m fine,
aren’t I? Don’t be mad at me, Marvin. Well… Did Milton and Nina know?”
“Not yet.”
“I’m glad.” Janet breathed a sigh of relief.
“What is it? Are you ashamed?” Marvin raised his eyebrows.
“That’s not it…” Janet blushed a little, but when she thought about it, she was
indeed embarrassed.
She had been learning in terms of both fighting and scheming. Yet this time, she was a complete failure. No matter what the reason was, she was
embarrassed.
But the bigger reason was she didn’t want Milton and Nina to worry about
her.
Marvin saw through her at once and said unhurriedly, “They are getting old. I didn’t want them to worry, so I didn’t tell them anything. Even Beacher and only found out about it not long ago.”
Hearing his words, Janet became curious. “Where is Beacher?”
She thought, even Marvin is here, and he says that Beacher knows already. Then where is Beacher anyway?
