"Anytime," Celeste replied, her tone steady and unyielding.
Mabel's anger only deepened.
"Fine! If you're not afraid of your father, then come with me to Duncan Enterprises right now!"
She knew perfectly well that Herbert had little affection for this daughter. When it came down to it, even at Duncan Enterprises, Herbert—her own cousin—would side with her.
Certain she had the upper hand, Mabel shot Celeste a smug, challenging look, chin lifted in defiance.
But Celeste didn't bat an eye. She nodded coolly.
"Just don't come crying to me later, Aunt Mabel."
"Hmph! Let's see if my cousin cares more for his own flesh-and-blood or puts his trust in you—a lovesick daughter who chased after a man and abandoned home for over a decade!"
Their gazes locked, sparks flying in the air.
Without another word, Mabel marched Celeste toward Duncan Enterprises, determined to wring justice from Herbert.
Inside the office, Herbert was in the middle of reviewing a few recent contracts with Philip when his assistant burst in, flustered.
"Mr. Duncan, Ms. Mabel from Ingrid Holdings is here—she's demanding to see you. She's crying, and we can't hold her off."
"Didn't Celeste take charge of Ingrid Holdings? What's—" Herbert frowned, glancing at Philip, unwilling to let outsiders witness the family's squabbles.
But he didn't get the chance to finish. Mabel had already shoved past security and assistants, tears streaming down her face. She didn't even notice Philip across the desk. Instead, she hurled her handbag into Herbert's arms.
"Cousin! Your daughter is making my life miserable!"
"She's fired everyone at Ingrid Holdings, replaced all the people I've spent years training, and now she wants to kick me out! Every other manager got their severance, but she's refusing to give me mine… Cousin, does she want me out on the street?"
