Claudia stood quietly in front of York.
She tilted her head up slightly, meeting his heavy, complicated gaze with a smile.
"Don't look at me like that," Claudia said. "It's fine. I'll just grab a cab myself."
The more she smiled, the darker York's expression became.
Claudia handed the bag of medicine to Ann. "His wrist is injured. Remember to remind him to take his medication on time."
Ann glanced furtively at York's face before accepting the bag.
Seeing how terrifyingly grim York looked, Ann quickly apologized to Claudia. "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Ferguson. I didn't watch him properly. I've caused you trouble."
Claudia just smiled and shook her head. "It's Christmas Eve. You three should be together as a family. It was my oversight today. I'll be sure to remind him on future holidays."
Before she could finish, York stepped forward and took the medicine from Ann's hand. "Ann, get in the car."
Ann glanced at Claudia before obediently getting into the car to wait.
York closed the door and turned back to Claudia. As he handed her the medicine, he clasped her hand as well.
"Don't overthink things," he said. "I'll be home soon."
Claudia subtly pulled her hand away. "If it gets too late, don't bother coming back. Just spend time with them."
York stared intently at her face.
Her composure and her smile felt like a heavy weight on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
Seeing that York wasn't moving, Claudia gently pushed him toward the car.
"If you're not ready to go public yet, you might want to be more careful around reporters. But don't worry, I remember the cold, hard terms of our prenup. I have no intention of breaking them."
"Claudia!" York's emotions flared unexpectedly.
He couldn't risk telling her the truth. But he also couldn't stand to see her like this.
