The other two employees heard this and quickly chimed in with their own greetings.
Ann looked at York awkwardly.
With a dark expression, York corrected them. "You've made a mistake. She is not my wife."
Claudia set down the menu and stood up. "Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Ferguson, please excuse me. I need to use the restroom."
Before York could react, Claudia turned and walked away.
Her words effectively confirmed Ann's identity as Mrs. Ferguson.
The female employee chuckled. "Mr. Ferguson, you're always so serious at work. I didn't realize you liked to joke around in private."
"Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Ferguson, please enjoy your meal. We won't disturb you any longer."
After the three employees left, Ann let out a quiet sigh of relief.
She snuck a glance at York and saw that his face was dangerously dark.
"York, don't worry about it," Ann explained. "It was probably from that day your wife had me deliver medicine to you at the office. They must have gotten the wrong idea."
When York didn't respond, Ann glanced at her phone.
She saw a message from Claudia saying she had to leave. Ann cautiously spoke up, "York, your wife had to go..."
Before she could finish, York was already getting up from his seat.
Ann sat alone, watching his retreating figure as he strode away. She bit her lower lip hard. *York, I've suffered so much for you, sacrificed so much. You will never get rid of me in this lifetime.*
York caught up with Claudia by a flower bed in front of the hospital's main building.
Seeing several of her colleagues in the distance, Claudia grabbed York and pulled him behind a large tree near the shrubbery.
York's voice was laced with anger. "Am I that embarrassing to be seen with?"
"Why are you so worked up in the middle of the day?" Claudia said soothingly. "If your employees mistake Ann for your wife, you should reflect on your own actions. You can't blame me for that."
