He leaned his back heavily against the wall and closed his eyes, hiding the redness within them.

At the hospital, Claudia threw herself into her work. When she saw on the computer that York had booked a consultation with her, she frowned.

York knocked and entered. Claudia said coldly, "York, if you're here to cause trouble, wait until after work."

"I'm here for a check-up." York's low voice cut her off before she could finish.

Claudia froze for a second. He had been so resistant. Why the sudden change of heart? Were her words this morning too harsh? Had she pushed him too far?

She hesitated, then said, "You'll need to make a new appointment with the urology department."

York walked up to her desk, his deep eyes studying her expression. "I know you can write the order."

Claudia dropped her gaze, avoiding his, and sat back down to write out the referral slip. "Take this to the payment counter."

"I'm not familiar with this place," York said. "You'll have to show me."

Claudia looked at her assistant across from her. "Mira, please take him."

Intimidated by the tense atmosphere between the couple, Mira quickly led York away for his check-up.

It was nearly noon by the time York finished his last test. The nurse reminded him to come back the next day for the report.

"Just give my report to Director Watkins," York instructed.

The nurse pulled Mira aside. "Mira, who is that man to Director Watkins?"

Mira whispered, "That's Mr. Ferguson, Director Watkins's CEO husband."

Ignoring the hushed gossip of the women behind him, York returned to Claudia's office. He knocked, entered, and walked over to the coat rack to get her coat.

Claudia chose to ignore him.
