Ann glanced over at York.
"York, my mother's sudden collapse had me frantic, and I said some things I didn't mean. Once I get her settled at the hospital, I'll come to your home to apologize in person."
With that, she hurried onto the ambulance, and it drove away.
Claudia watched it go, feeling a sense of exasperation. This was the best Ann could do? And here she thought Ann had some real talent.
Without a backward glance, Claudia started walking across the street.
Peter and Rock moved to flank York, blocking his path.
Only when Claudia had safely reached the other side and the traffic light turned red did they let him go.
"Your mother-in-law was just taken to the hospital. Aren't you going to go check on her?" Peter prodded.
Rock ruffled his short hair. "Peter, you've got it wrong. Mr. Ferguson only sleeps with the young one, not the old one. He doesn't have to take responsibility for both."
York's mood was already at rock bottom. Their words were like a punch to the gut, nearly giving him a heart attack.
Just past 2:30 that afternoon, in Claudia's office.
Her assistant, Mira, knocked and entered, placing a medical report on the desk. "Director Watkins, your husband said to give you his physical exam results directly once they came in."
Claudia scanned the report thoroughly.
"Send it back to the lab. Have them notify him to pick it up himself," she said.
Mira leaned in cautiously, her curiosity piqued. "Director Watkins, are you and your husband...?"
Claudia was surprisingly frank. "He cheated on me and had a child with another woman. We're in the middle of a divorce."
She had just come from the inpatient ward and had seen Ann checking her mother in. Two of her colleagues had been in the crowd during the chaotic scene on the street earlier. She was sure that before long, the entire hospital would know that Ann was her husband's mistress.
If she couldn't get a divorce, then she would make a scene.
At worst, York would just lose his temper and threaten her again. But she wasn't scared of that anymore.
Cyrus had promised to protect her family.
