No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 321

Before Claudia could speak, Ann cut in. "Mr. Ferguson, we know Dr. Watkins."

Hugh simply nodded in acknowledgment.

"Mommy," Hawley whimpered, burying his face in Claudia's shoulder like an injured puppy, nuzzling against her neck.

Claudia patted Hawley's back gently, then carried him past York and into the hospital room.

Ann grabbed York's arm, her voice a shocked whisper. "York, did you hear that? That child just called your wife 'Mommy'!"

York quietly pulled his arm away. "You must have heard wrong."

He knew of Hugh Ferguson but didn't know him well.

A titan in the legal world who only handled commercial cases, Hugh was constantly flying all over the globe and rarely associated with Capital City's elite. If he barely had a connection with the man, Claudia certainly wouldn't. It had to be nothing more than a doctor-patient relationship.

When York and Ann entered the room, Claudia was sitting on the edge of the hospital bed, comforting Hawley.

Ann approached Hugh, her earlier arrogance completely gone.

"Mr. Ferguson," she began, "this is all my son's fault. He's just a child and doesn't know any better. Please, don't take it to heart."

Hugh, standing by the bed holding a child's sippy cup, replied coolly, "Miss James, that wasn't quite the attitude you had when we first spoke, was it?"

Ann lowered her head in embarrassment. The teacher had only said that her son had gotten into a fight. When she arrived at the school, she had tried to slip the teacher a thousand-dollar bill, but the teacher refused it, insisting that both sets of parents meet. Ann had figured that a show of force would make the other party back down. She never imagined she'd be up against someone she couldn't afford to offend.

She shot a desperate, pleading look at York.

York stepped forward. "Mr. Ferguson, I know you're an outstanding lawyer, but it's always better to resolve conflicts than to prolong them. I will offer double the compensation for your son's medical bills and recovery costs, and I will have Ethan make a public apology. We hope you'll agree to settle this privately."

Hugh turned to York. "And you are, Mr. Ferguson? The child's father?"
