"York, betrayal comes in many forms," she said, her voice measured. "An emotional affair is still an affair."

"The moment you claimed Ann's son as your own, you sealed your fate. It was inevitable that you would lose Claudia's child, and that you would lose Claudia herself."

"Last night, your grandfather found out everything. He knows you threw away his great-grandchild for a child that isn't even yours. The shock sent him into cardiac arrest. He's in the hospital now."

Peter glanced at him and sat down opposite. "Claudia got rid of your child without a moment's hesitation. That should tell you everything you need to know about her resolve to divorce you. At this point, do you really need me to convince you?"

York finally lost control. "Plenty of men cheat and their families stick together!" he snapped. "All I did was give in to a weak moment and agree to claim Ann's son. I was just trying to help Ann! Why is everyone acting like I'm some kind of monster?"

He continued, his voice frantic, "I know she's proud and has a temper. Once she's recovered, I'll make it up to her. I'll cut ties with Ann completely. As long as I refuse to divorce her, we can start over. I know we can."
