A cryptic smile played on Wendy's lips.
Ann James secretly watched Wendy's reaction, her heart pounding with excitement.
Without waiting for Wendy to speak, she quickly prompted her son, "Ethan, hurry and thank your grandmother."
Before Ethan could say a word, Wendy cut in. "Ann, you've got some nerve, thinking you can bring a son you had with your ex-husband into the Ferguson family."
It was as if a bomb had gone off in Ann's head; her mind went completely blank.
She stared at Wendy in disbelief. How could this old woman know about her son's parentage?
Standing before Wendy, Ann’s guilt was written all over her.
She feigned innocence. "Mrs. Ferguson, what are you talking about? I don't understand."
Wendy raised an eyebrow. "Ann, York has already confessed. You can drop the act."
Ann's eyes darted around nervously.
Steeling herself, she said, "Mrs. Ferguson, you've got the wrong idea. Look, you saw the DNA report yourself. If you're still not convinced, get another one done."
Wendy nodded. "You have a point."
As she spoke, two bodyguards stepped forward, forcibly separated Ann and her son, and snipped a small lock of Ethan's hair.
The boy, terrified, started wailing and kicking at the bodyguards. "My dad is super rich! I'm going to have him beat you up!"
Seeing this, Ann completely panicked.
She scrambled to cover her son's mouth, hiding him behind her.
Her gaze fell on the lock of hair in the bodyguard's hand, and she suddenly lost control, lunging for it.
Wendy slapped her hard across the face, sending Ann stumbling backward.
