York opened his phone, glanced at the photo Ann had sent, and then turned the screen off.
Ann saw that he had no reaction.
"York, I was afraid you wouldn't believe me if I just told you, so I took a picture to show you," she said. "Honestly, they were even more intimate in person than they look in the photo."
She continued, "I used to think your wife loved you, but I never imagined she insisted on a divorce because of this man."
"You called me and said you had something urgent to tell me. Was this it?" York asked.
Ann was taken aback by his question.
Realizing her mistake, she quickly explained, "No, York, that's not it. My condition has been getting worse lately, that's why I came to find you. Your wife's situation was just something I mentioned in passing."
York looked Ann up and down. "Claudia has already agreed to treat you. I'll arrange a time with her and bring you to her personally."
Ann was thrilled to hear that even after the divorce, York was still thinking of her.
She put on a sincere act. "York, thank you so much for helping me. In that case, I'll go home and wait for your call. I won't disturb you any longer."
York watched Ann leave.
He leaned wearily against his car and lit a cigarette.
Opening his phone again, he stared at the picture Ann had sent him, feeling an overwhelming sense of frustration.
He didn't want to go back to a home without Claudia.
He wanted to go to the Watkins' house right now and find her. But he didn't know what excuse he could use to see her. That was the reality of it. Now, he needed an excuse just to see her.
York leaned weakly against the car door, tilted his head back, and closed his eyes.

The next morning, York went to the hospital to find Claudia.
