Just as York set the recorder on the table, Mark knocked and entered the room.
Ann scrambled to pick her clothes off the floor and cover herself. Because the recorder was shaped like a pen, she only gave it a passing glance, dismissing it as she hastily got dressed.
Mark walked straight to York, his eyes fixed forward. "Mr. Ferguson, Mr. Yves from the Faraday Group is waiting outside. He said he saw you come into this room and would like to invite you to his suite for a drink with a few other executives."
York frowned. The Ferguson Group had an ongoing partnership with the Faraday Group, and it would be rude to refuse a direct invitation.
He looked at Ann.
She quickly put on a pleasing smile. "You go take care of business, York. I'll wait here for you."
York coolly picked up the recorder from the coffee table. "I promised you a birthday you'd never forget, and I intend to keep that promise. I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait for me a little longer."
"York, just hearing you say that is enough for me," Ann said, thrilled. "I'll wait for you, no matter how late it gets."
York nodded and left with Mark.
Once the door closed, Ann began to pace around the room. From York's mood tonight, it was clear he wanted something to happen between them.
He was finally divorced from that bitch Claudia.
She couldn't let this opportunity go to waste.
She had to let everyone witness York celebrating her birthday, to see that they were truly together. It would crush any fantasies other women might have about him.
With that thought, Ann picked up her phone and called Celia.
"Celia, York is celebrating my birthday tonight and wants to get back together with me," Ann said. "I need you to help me prepare a banquet hall, decorate it, and invite all our friends."
