With that, Celia led a group of friends to greet York and Ann.
Peter, Darleen, and Wendy exchanged glances, each with a different expression.
York scanned the banquet hall's decorations and gave Mark a subtle look. Mark nodded and slipped away.
Guests quickly gathered around, congratulating Ann and York.
York's gaze landed on his mother and sister.
Ann followed his line of sight and saw that old hag Wendy, a small smile playing on her lips. "Don't be angry, York," she said. "They are your family, after all. I want to get along with them and smooth things over, so I took the liberty of having Celia invite them."
Just as she finished speaking, Laurel entered the hall with a sycophantic grin. "Ann, Ann, I brought the pers—"
Catching Ann's warning glare, Laurel quickly corrected herself. "Your brother and his family had nothing to do at home, so they came along to join the fun."
Ann saw Claudia and a man named Six enter at the door and, satisfied, sent her mother away. "Mom, take my brother, his wife, and the kid to get something to eat."
Laurel nodded eagerly and led her family aside.
York's brow furrowed when he saw Claudia.
They looked at each other from a distance, and York instinctively started walking toward her.
Seeing this, Ann quickly blocked his path. She boldly took his arm in front of everyone. "York, I didn't expect Dr. Watkins to come. Let me go say hello with you."
York coolly removed her hand, his face hardening. "That won't be necessary."
Six leaned close to Claudia's ear and whispered, "So, this ugly monster dragged you here just to watch her show off with Mr. Ferguson?"
Claudia pulled Six toward Wendy. "Show off or not, she'll be dead soon enough."
