No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 423

Alone in the dead of night, York's emotions overwhelmed him.

He didn't know how much he had drunk.

In a daze, he couldn't tell if he was asleep and dreaming or wide awake.

He was woken the next morning by Wilma, who found him on the sofa.

York sat up wearily, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Wilma, didn't I tell you…"

Before he could finish, Wilma quickly explained, "Sir, Mrs. Ferguson was worried about you being alone, so she asked me to come and look after you."

York said nothing, simply got up and went to the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, he emerged, dressed and ready.

Wilma stopped him. "Sir, breakfast is ready. Mrs. Ferguson instructed me to make sure you eat before you leave."

York hesitated for a moment, then turned and went to the dining room.

Sitting alone at the table, his gaze instinctively drifted to Claudia's empty seat.

His hand, with its well-defined knuckles, tightened around the spoon. York forced himself to look away.

He stared at the porridge in front of him, feeling no appetite at all.

He couldn't help but remember the time he came home early from work and found Claudia in the kitchen, trying to cook dinner for him.

She was wearing her cartoon pajamas, bustling around in a flurry of activity, humming happily to herself.

When a spatter of hot oil burned the back of her hand, she had merely rinsed it under cold water before carrying on…

Sitting at the table, York suddenly felt so weak that he couldn't even hold his spoon steady.

A clatter echoed as the spoon dropped onto the table, rolled off the edge, and shattered on the floor, pulling him from his thoughts.

Looking down at the stain on his white shirt, York stood up to change his clothes.

In the walk-in closet, York opened a drawer to get a pair of cufflinks and remembered the diamond ones Claudia had given him for their second wedding anniversary.
