York couldn't stop himself from pulling her into his arms.

He held her tight, giving her no room to struggle.

"Claudia, I know this isn't fair to you," he said, his voice muffled against her hair. "But if you can just accept the existence of Ann and her son, I'll transfer all my assets to your name."

She couldn't break free, so she let him hold her. "Even so, York, I can't stop you from spending money on them. I can't stop you from being good to them."

Her voice was flat. "I've grown up, York. I'm not that naive little girl anymore who did whatever you said. You can't fool me."

He hugged her tighter, desperate to savor the moment.

"I'm not fooling you, Claudia," he murmured. "Name a price. I'll give Ann and her son a settlement, and after that, I'll only provide basic support. I swear I'll never spend another cent on them without telling you. I promise."

With a surge of strength, Claudia finally pushed herself out of his embrace.

She moved back toward the sofa, putting distance between them. "Why don't you understand, York? This isn't about money!"

She was a purist when it came to love.

York was tainted. Even if it killed her, she couldn't take him back.

Her emotions spiraled out of control. "York, I can't accept a husband who betrayed me! I can't accept that my husband is still in love with his first love! And I can't accept that he has a child with another woman!"

Her voice cracked. "It makes me sick, York. The thought of you with them makes me want to vomit. I can't be near you anymore!"

The determination in her eyes sent a wave of panic through him.

But he couldn't explain.

He walked toward her, trying his best to soothe her. "Claudia, Ann and her son are a reality we can't change. But you are my only wife. I will never divorce you for them."

They locked eyes. He leaned in to kiss her, but she turned her head away.

Forcefully, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her again.

Claudia struggled as he pushed her down onto the sofa.
