Can’t take Ethan away, leave Jacob behind?

Maureen knew this was a rare opportunity; if they delayed, she might not be able to take Ethan away later.

He awaited the completion of all this to surprise her.

Geoffrey even envisioned having another child with Maureen to live a peaceful life.

She left the gifts Geoffrey bought untouched and didn’t take them.

She called her overseas assistant: “What’s the current balance in the company account?”

She intended to return all the money to Geoffrey–both to silence him and as–payment for borrowing his sperm.

“Just some small business ventures. Sorry to trouble you with the delivery,” Maureen paused, then added, “But this time, please draft an agreement stating the return of all dowry Geoffrey ever gave the Ramirez family. We’ll be settled with no further debts.”

“But would Geoffrey even sign it?”

“He can sign it or not, that’s his call. Anyway, I owe him nothing now.”

Maureen paused. “Two weeks from now.”

She needed to ensure Jacob would leave with her.

Geoffrey sat at the head of the table, his friend Larry beside him.

Larry slid the property contract forward. “If I recall right, this is the Ramirez ancestral home?”

Wayne had brought over the Ramirez estate documents earlier, which Larry spotted.

“What’s the issue?”

Geoffrey countered.

“Been too busy for gatherings lately. Wouldn’t be for Maureen, would it?”

Larry studied him intently.

It struck him how unusually invested Geoffrey seemed in someone.

Geoffrey chuckled dryly. “What are you talking about?”

“Funny story–Sean has a son.

Larry’s lips curved strangely.

Larry remarked.

Geoffrey wasn’t overly curious. Sean was a womanizer who played the field, so having an illegitimate child wasn’t surprising.

He checked the time. It was getting late, so he stood up:

“I’ve got things to handle. Heading back now.”

Larry crossed his left leg over his right and suggested, “Let’s visit his kid in a couple days, yeah?”

Geoffrey neither refused nor agreed.

He hadn’t gone far when his phone rang.

Opening it, an unknown text popped up:

“I’m coming back soon. We need to talk things through.”

Geoffrey glanced at the text message and immediately dialed back, but no one answered.

He deleted the message impatiently.

Back at Pearl,

Maureen was already in bed.

After showering, Geoffrey effortlessly pulled her into his arms.
