Jacob knew she didn’t believe him–after all, he was just a kid.

the maid offered.

Geoffrey’s chest tightened as he took the ring, spotting scratches on its surface.

He suddenly remembered–seven years ago on their wedding day, Maureen had hidden in the kitchen sobbing and trying to destroy this very ring because of his coldness.
