“Leukemia, I believe.”
Wayne had uncovered this earlier. When bringing Ethan to Peach County, he’d had a medical team with him.
“Let’s head back.”
Geoffrey said.
“Yes.”
During the drive back, Geoffrey closed his eyes. The doctor’s words drifted back:
“Mr. Sutton, at this recovery rate, you should regain full memory within a month.”
A month…
Geoffrey had noticed his memories growing clearer lately, yet strangely, the more they returned, the more distressed he felt.
Before he knew it, they’d arrived home. Wayne nudged him, and he opened his eyes to step out of
the car.
The distant sound of a woman playing piano drifted through the air.
A voice echoed in Geoffrey’s mind once more: “So I’ve been wrong all along. The person I love… it was never you.”
His head throbbed inexplicably, and he forced himself not to dwell on it.
Hearing the door open downstairs, Maureen came down from the second floor, finding Geoffrey had returned.
She couldn’t help asking, “Why are you only getting back now?”
“Overtime.”
It wasn’t entirely a lie–preparing the new company kept him genuinely busy.
After answering, he approached Maureen: “Reenie, is the child inside you truly not mine?”

With fragmented memories resurfacing recently, he distinctly recalled them being intimate more
than once.
Caught off guard by his question, Maureen tensed up immediately.
“Of course not.
In that moment, she decided she couldn’t keep stalling with Geoffrey staying here any longer.
Once his memories fully returned, he’d know she’d borrowed his seed.
Geoffrey didn’t press further after hearing that.
Maureen brushed him off and returned to her room.
New Year’s Day was approaching, bringing holidays. The next day, Geoffrey had no work, and Jacob didn’t need to attend school.
Maureen led Geoffrey to a small room: “We need to talk.”
Unbeknownst to her, Jacob was eavesdropping outside.
“What is it?”
Geoffrey stood before her, his tall frame blocking most of the light.
“After much thought, I believe we should proceed with the divorce.”
Maureen knew exploiting his amnesia was unfair, but she had no choice–she couldn’t risk losing her child.
Darkness pooled in Geoffrey’s unreadable eyes as he remained silent.
Anticipating his resistance, Maureen continued: “The truth is, you’ve always loved someone else- a stunning actress. She was your first love.”
“If we divorce now, she’d surely welcome you back. You won’t regret this when your memories return.”
Geoffrey listened quietly to her fabrication.
Most of his memories had resurfaced during this period–how could he not know why he’d dated Andrea back then?
First, because she’d saved Heather; second, because he’d simply felt it was time to date someone.

The two had no affection to speak of, not even holding hands back then.
But Maureen knew nothing of this…

Geoffrey knew he couldn’t admit having regained most of his memories now. If he did, Maureen would push harder for divorce.
He’d watched the footage Wayne provided from their original divorce case – to end their marriage, Maureen had publicly admitted to infidelity and used it as leverage against him.
Seeing Geoffrey remain silent, Maureen pressed: “If you’re still concerned, I’ll agree to pay 1.2 million dollars monthly in alimony?
Deal?”
Geoffrey’s expression instantly darkened.
Alimony?
1.2 million?
Who did she think he was?
But bringing up money, Geoffrey had an idea: “Reenie, if getting divorced would make you happy, I can agree to it.”
Maureen hadn’t expected him to be so considerate now.
“Then shall we go to the courthouse after New Year’s to get divorced?”
Last time it didn’t work out because of the staff’s personal issue, but this time she’d make sure it succeeded.
“However, there’s something I forgot to tell you.”
Geoffrey said slowly.
“What is it?”
“All my assets are frozen now. Plus, Wayne told me I’m carrying massive debts. If we divorce, you’d have to shoulder half.”
Maureen froze, unable to believe it for a long moment.
“How much?”

Geoffrey knew she wouldn’t believe such a sudden lie: “A huge amount. If you want exact figures, I’ll call Wayne over.”
Maureen wanted to see how he’d spin this lie further.
That very morning. Wayne arrived holding several stacks of documents.
“Madam, you must know I was fired from Sutton Group long ago?”
“I only recently found out about Alex’s financial issues. Alex isn’t just trying to replace him. Look at these documents, they’re all transfer agreements he signed on Alex’s behalf. All of Alex’s assets have been transferred to his name, including shares in Corporate Giant.”
Wayne handed all the documents to Maureen.
“It’s true. Ever since Heather heard Geoffrey say he disliked having his identity taken, she started having Alex transfer Geoffrey’s assets. She wanted to hand the company over to Alex as quickly as possible.”
Geoffrey was unaware during this time. He only received the transfer contracts afterward. Heather begged him not to expose this.
