No Second Chances Ex-husband (Lauren and Ethan) novel Chapter 151

CHAPTER 0151

ROMAN’S POV

Aria is definitely going to appreciate all this chocolate, I thought to myself as I stared at the love basket sitting neatly on the table.

I lowered myself onto the couch, running a hand over the armrest absentmindedly. The room was quiet except for the soft ticking of my wristwatch. Lauren had gone to answer the door a few minutes ago, and she said it was probably Tessa. But now it had been over five minutes.

What’s taking her so long?

I checked my watch again. Maybe Tessa decided to chat a little longer at the door. Still, Lauren wasn’t the type to just linger in small talk, especially not when there was food to put away.

Something feltoff.

Then, I heard her voice.

What are you doing here? How did you find this place?

Her tone wasn’t the usual calm, polite one I’d grown used to hearing from her. It was sharp, laced with irritation, and underneath that, something else.

I straightened a little on the couch, my head turning toward the hallway. I couldn’t see who she was talking to from where I sat, but whoever it was, it definitely wasn’t Tessa.

You’re not gonna invite me in?a male voice replied.

My brows furrowed instantly. That voiceit was deep but smooth, arrogant, even. I felt a small wave of curiosity rising, followed closely by unease.

Who was she talking to?

The only thing I’m going to do is call the police if you don’t leave now,Lauren snapped.

That’s when I knew it wasn’t a casual visit. Her tone was cold, final, and steady like someone standing her ground against a threat.

I stood up halfway, torn between minding my place and stepping in. Should I go see if she’s okay? Maybe she’s got this under control. I didn’t want to look like I was interfering in her personal matters, not when we were finally building something fragile, something real.

If she needs me, she’ll call me, I told myself. She’s strong enough to handle herself.

But just as that thought crossed my mind, I heard footsteps, two sets, one heavier than the other moving closer down the hallway.

My jaw tightened.

Did this person force his way in? Or did shelet him in?

Quite a nice place you have, Lauren.

The man’s voice was clearer now, and the second I heard it, every muscle in my body stiffened.

No. It couldn’t be.

I froze where I was, the air suddenly thick around me. That voice, was burned into my memory, tied to years of bitterness and betrayal.

My pulse quickened as realization hit me like a cold slap.

I would recognize that voice anywhere, even if I were blind.

It was him.

I shot up from the couch, my fists clenching instinctively at my sides. My mouth went dry as I turned toward the hallway, and there he was.

Ethan black.

Someone I once called my friend, my brother.

He stood there with that smug look that hadn’t changed in years arrogant, calm, like the entire world was his to mock. His suit was tailored, his hair slicked back, and that infuriating smirk still sat on his face like a permanent

scar.

Ethan,I muttered under my breath, the name tasting like poison.

He looked a bit more polished now than I last saw him almost 3 weeks ago, but beneath that polished exterior was the same man who never missed a chance to sneer at otherspain.

My fists tightened again, my jaw locking as my glare darkened.

I hadn’t seen him since he showed up uninvited at my company’s anniversary. We hadn’t spoken since. And honestly, I never intended to. There was nothing left to say between us.

But now, seeing him standing there, in Lauren’s living room of all places, fury started bubbling deep inside me.

What the hell was he doing here?

Lauren stormed in right after, her face pale with anger. I didn’t invite you in, Ethan! I suggest you leave, or the cops will make you leave. That’s right, I’ve already called the police. They’ll be here any moment.

Ethan chuckled under his breath, his expression dripping with mock amusement. Really? The police? You do know I have the commissioner’s number, right? Those cops wouldn’t dare to interfere because they know

what’s at risk.

The arrogance in his tone made my blood boil.

That was it.

Now I knew I had to step in.

I took a step forward, my eyes locking onto his with a deadly calm that even surprised me. If you don’t leave,I said evenly, and the cops aren’t available to do that, then I’ll just throw you out myself.

He turned to face me fully, his lips curling into that same smug grin I used to hate. Roman Hale,he said slowly, his voice dripping with mock familiarity. He looked me up and down like he was measuring how much he could provoke me.

Then, as if remembering something amusing, he turned back to Lauren.
