Chapter 175
Adam wondered, ‘Uncle Victor didn’t even say anything. Why did Dad suddenly get so mad? So weird.
Victor snorted, “That bastard actually thinks he can go after our precious gem right under my nose? In his dreams!”
Skylar shook her head with an amused sigh. “Relax, Victor. You’re reading too much into this. There’s no way anything would ever happen between me
and Yosef.”
Victor bristled like a wary cat, his guard up. “Can’t be too careful when it comes to people like that.”
Skylar could do nothing about Victor’s overprotectiveness. Since it wasn’t a big deal, she simply let him be.
Curtis lashed out at Joanne the moment they met. “Are you out of your mind? You actually tried to get me to hit on a married woman?
“Seriously, what were you thinking? It’s bad enough you mess around on your own, but now you want to drag me into this? If my old man ever found out, he’d kill me!”
Joanne scowled, her face dark with irritation at his scolding. Then she suddenly caught on and blurted out, “What did you just say?”
“What now?” Curtis snapped, clearly impatient.
“Did you say she’s a married woman?” Joanne’s eyes gleamed with a calculating light. “How reliable is this information?”
“Of course,” Curtis grumbled resentfully. “Today I saw her son and husband with my own eyes, and got chewed out by that man. Let me tell you, I really got screwed over this time. Fine, forget about the bet, but you still owe me that car.”
Joanne fell silent, her eyes glazed over as she stared blankly into space.
Curtis frowned. “Joanne, I’m talking to you!”
“I heard you,” Joanne snapped. “I have no problem buying you a car, but I need you to do one final favor for me.”
Curtis snapped, “What now?”
Joanne said slyly, “Help me with this, and the car’s yours, the bet is yours too.”
Curtis felt his resolve completely crumble.
She added, “How about I throw in the race car of your dreams?”
Curtis had an all–consuming passion for race cars, both driving the
them and collecting them.
His family considered car racing extremely dangerous and strictly forbade him from any involvement.
He used to sneak out to race, but when his family found out, they smashed every single one of his prized cars to pieces.
At Joanne’s offer to buy him a race car, Curtis’s last defenses completely collapsed.
Curtis grinned. “You’ve got a deal.”
“Absolutely.” Their eyes met, no words needed to be spoken.
Joanne reappeared on set.
She said, “Director, everyone’s been working so hard on this shoot. Let Ime treat the whole crew to a nice dinner tonight!”
“Well…” The director hesitated, stealing a furtive glance at Yosef, who was sitting off to the side, hidden behind a mask and sunglasses, and didn’t dare to

give his approval.
Because Yosef was so heavily bundled up, Joanne didn’t recognize him at all.
“What are you staring at him for?” Joanne snapped irritably.
“I wasn’t…” the director stammered, his voice lacking conviction.
