If Denise weren’t so frail, they wouldn’t have constantly put her first while overlooking Sierra.
He averted his gaze and stepped into the car first.

In the hospital room, Sierra held Lily tightly. She didn’t cry, but her eyes were rimmed with red.
Lily’s words today had moved her deeply. Those words made her realize that she wasn’t entirely alone in this world. Lily cherished her, and she was loved.
This only strengthened her resolve to develop the medicine as quickly as possible. She released Lily and said, “Grandma, don’t worry. From now on, we’ll all be fine. Trust me.”
Lily patted her hand. “Alright! I’m still waiting for you to find a husband. I want to see you become a mother.”
As she spoke, she was already making plans in her heart.
Seeing Lily in good spirits, Sierra felt reassured. They chatted for a while longer before Sierra finally stood up to leave.
She touched her forehead. It was burning again. Since she was already at the hospital, she decided to grab
then some medicine. But just as she turned to go, a thought struck her. She hesitated for a moment, pivoted and headed straight for Lily’s attending doctor’s office.

Both times Sierra had visited recently, she had been running a high fever. Today, she had embraced Lily- for hours, yet Lily hadn’t noticed a thing.
It wasn’t that Lily was unobservant. She had simply lost the ability to feel it.
Panic clawed at Sierra’s heart.

The medical report in her hands had already been crumpled into a tight ball. Without another word, she turned and strode out of the hospital.
In the lab, Sierra worked tirelessly, running experiments and recording data. She was utterly consumed, pushing herself to go faster, even though it was just a little faster.
Time became meaningless until the lab door swung open, and Shane stepped inside.
“Are you trying to kill yourself in here?”
The lab supervisor had been the one to call him, telling him that Sierra had been locked inside for two days without emerging once.
Hearing Shane’s voice, Sierra instinctively turned her head. But the moment she moved, her vision swam, and everything went black.
When she regained consciousness, she was lying in a hospital bed. As she stirred, a voice as chilling as ice cut through the silence.
“You’re awake!”
Sierra froze. Her eyes darted to the sofa, where Shane sat, head lowered, phone in hand, fingers moving swiftly across the screen.
It seemed he had lost whatever game he was playing, as he clicked his tongue in mild irritation before tucking his phone away. Then, he rose and strode to her bedside, looking down at her with cold disdain.
“I thought you were smarter than I thought. How are you still this reckless? Did you think dying would fix anything?”
Who wants to die? That’s the last thing I want!
Sierra scowled internally but remained silent.
As if he had read her thoughts, Shane let out a sharp scoff.
