I’m Going to Knit So Hard.
Ayla
I decided I needed a distraction from my own thoughts. One minute I’m confident and feel very self–assured and the next I’m a mess of self- doubt and worry. That is why I am currently in the empty bedroom next to our joint bedroom/nest room, planning our little pup’s room. Except, I’m indecisive and Thane’s no help.
“Maybe we could paint little forest animals on the wall over here?” I stand in the center of the room squinting, turning, pacing, and thinking, but still haven’t figured out what I want.
“Do you paint?” Thane turns to me with a questioning eyebrow raised up.
“I don’t think so.” Now I find myself wondering if I’m good at anything which isn’t helping either.
“Why are you scowling?” Thane says with a little laughter in his tone.
“I don’t think there is anything I am good at.” I truly can’t think of anything I do that I can say that I am great at.
“When you flick your tongue underneath….”
“I meant hobbies…things for fun, dork.” I interrupted him, blushing at where his thoughts are. If mine goes there, I won’t ever make any decisions about this room.
Before I was abducted, I was confined to the estate grounds. I couldn’t do anything of fun really. Books and drawing were my only hobbies, and baking. If fighting with your sibling was a hobby, I excelled at that. I wish I could argue with her again.
“Do you want a hobby Little Wolf?” I know he is considerate enough to not question me on my life before the abduction, but I also know he was hinting at it earlier.
“I didn’t have any hobbies before Thane. I read books and drew pictures. I wasn’t good at it either. I wasn’t allowed to do anything, actually.” I frown at him, and he walks over to me and pulls me against him tightly.
Thane kisses me on the forehead. “You can get a hobby, but here quickly there will be a little one keeping us both busy.”
“Another reason to get a hobby now, that way I can be really good at it by then.” I don’t know if it is sound logic, but it makes sense in my head. Thane laughs and pulls back from me.
“Alright. We will get some hobbies. Anything you want to try?”
“I haven’t thought about it before. Maybe knitting? It is winter that would give me all kinds of things to knit.” I could make hats and scarves
and…
“Oh, I know! I could make stuff for Thane Jr.” I squeal with excitement. This is just what I need to keep my mind busy.
“Wait, Thane Jr?” Is this a thing? Did you decide this?” Thane laughs at me while looking at me with admiration. Everything he does makes me feel loved. I love the way he looks at me. The bond in my chest is warm and peaceful.
“Well, no. That’s just what I am calling him.” We should discuss names soon. I really have no preferences but that doesn’t mean Thane doesn’t.
“What if it’s an Ayla Jr.?” he asks, and I tilt my head up and think. Would our pup grow and shift into a white wolf? A black wolf? Look like me? Look like him? There are all sorts of things I haven’t thought about yet.
“I hope she has your dimples.” I hope all my pups do.
I stand up on my tip toes, but I’m still nowhere close to his lips. “Bend down giant.” I smile as he laughs against my lips.
“I’m getting distracted….I need to decide on a room color!” I pull away from him, remembering the real reason I came into this room in the first place.
“White.”
“I don’t know.”

“Blue.”
“I don’t think I like it.”
“Brown.”
“No.”
“Yellow.”
“Ew, no.”
“Polka dots.”
“Probably not.”
“What does that even mean?” He questions, his eyes say he is growing tired of my indecisiveness. I am too.
“You know…too in my face.”
“Sure….so purple.”
“No…maybe.”
“Red.”
“Why would you even suggest that?” I question him.
“Ugh, I’m not going to answer that. So, green.”
“Potentially a shade of it…so maybe.”
“Okay, do we need any other maybe’s?” Thane asks and I’m sure I already know the answer he is hoping to hear.
“Yes, I plan on keeping him in the nest for a while, but he will eventually need to get out.”
“So, you are saying we have a ton of time.”
“Potentially. What are we going to do about heats and having a pup?”
“We can have Uncle Cyrus and Aunt Raven watch him.” He suggests, surprising me.
“Do you trust them with our pup?”
