Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15

It struck Penelope’s forehead directly. Blood gushed faster than when Sydney had fallen down the stairs that morning.

Caleb stood stunned. His body reacted before his mind could catch up. He stormed forward, yanking Sydney away with force. His voice was cold and full of disappointment. “What the hell are you doing? Sydney, was your sweet and gentle act all fake?”

Caught off guard, Sydney hit the floor hard. She stared up at him, dazed and shocked by his

accusation.

Yes, it was fake. This time, she was done pretending.

Caleb had not expected her to be so weak that she couldn’t even withstand that force. He

froze, taken aback.

Meanwhile, Penelope clutched her forehead, crying out in pain, “Cal! It hurts… I’m bleeding

so much…”

Caleb didn’t glance at Sydney again. Scooping Penelope into his arms, he rushed out of the room. Just before disappearing through the door, he looked back once. In that moment, something seized his heart.

The little girl who once promised to marry him, the one with clear, bright eyes, now looked at him without a shred of feeling–not even like a stranger.

The IV had torn loose when Sydney threw it. The needle left a deep wound, and bright red blood streamed down her pale, delicate hand.

Sydney barely noticed. She gripped the edge of the bed and forced herself upright through the pain. Her thin frame trembled, and her knuckles turned white from the effort. Giving up

never crossed her mind.

That was the sight Tiffany walked in on. Horrified, she rushed forward, pressing one hand on Sydney’s bleeding hand while steadying her with the other. “What happened? You’re bleeding so badly and didn’t call a nurse. What were you thinking?”

What was she thinking?

Sydney curled her lips into a faint smile. Three years of sincere love and effort had felt worthless in the end.

Tiffany frowned and helped her onto the bed. “So what’s going on? Nancy called and said you fell down the stairs?”

Sydney pushed her thoughts aside and nodded calmly. “Yeah. But I already got my revenge.”

“Huh?”

“I cracked open Penelope’s head.” She pointed to the IV bag on the floor. “That was the weapon.”

“Yes. I have something important.”

She had studied under her mentor for over a decade. Both he and his wife had always treated

her well. She wasn’t about to break a promise.

“Alright,” the doctor agreed.

After checking her forehead wound, she began removing the stitches. “Good thing your

hairline hides the scar. Otherwise, it might have left a mark.”

Only a female doctor would worry about that.

Sydney smiled. “It’s fine if it scars.”

She didn’t care. Besides, scar removal was her specialty.

“No way,” the doctor said, voice rising. “Your face is way too pretty for a scar.”

“Exactly,” the nurse added with a grin. “By the way, your chart says you’re married, but we haven’t seen your husband once. Doesn’t he care at all?”

Sydney gave a small, amused smile. “Him? He’s probably busy.”
