Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 151

Chapter 151

You sure you’re all right?Tiffany asked, still uneasy.

“I’m fine.Sydney downed a glass of milk in one gulp and returned to her room. The truth was that she had no idea how to even begin talking about it.

Back in the car, she had thought Julian only wanted her to admit defeat and acknowledge him like an older brother. But lying in bed that night, the more she replayed it, the less it felt right. A thought had taken root inside her, spreading like wild grass.

Still, he was supposed to be her brother. Sydney could not tell if she was simply overthinking.

Since childhood, she had delivered countless love letters to himdozens, at least. They had come from school beauties and girls from prominent families.

Julian could have anyone he wanted. There was no way he would be interested in her, especially not in a married woman, at least on the surface. Besides, he had said it himself that he was not single.

Sydney exhaled slowly. Most likely, I am imagining things.

The next morning, before heading to the clinic, Sydney drove Tiffany to the airport. This case could make or break Tiffany’s promotion, and she had to fly out personally to persuade a witness in another state.

By noon, Sydney returned from work, only to find Caleb waiting in the parking lot.

The snow had not yet melted. He stood beside her car in a long coat, tall, straight, and as handsome as ever. He exuded the image of a perfect gentleman.

Sydney frowned. She had no idea what game he and Penelope were playing. The two of them seemed intent on taking turns cornering her.

Still, Penelope’s obsession with the pendant had far exceeded what Sydney expected. Maybe Caleb held the

answer.

She approached quickly. Why not come to the clinic if you’re looking for me?

I did not want to interrupt your work,Caleb said smoothly. Have you eaten yet? There’s a nice restaurant nearby

No need.” She had worked late and missed the cafeteria hours, but eating with Caleb was unnecessary. do you want?

What

The chill in her tone caught him off guard, stabbing at his chest. Maybe couples really could not live apart. Sydney had not always been this way. She used to be obedient and tolerant.

He made up his mind. When are you moving back? This afternoon works. I’m free. I can help pack your things.

He reached out, intending to ruffle her hair and soften the distance between them.

Sydney stepped back, retreating two paces. Caleb, did you not hear a single word I said that day? I told you that I will not interfere with you and that you must stop interfering with me.

She added coldly, Is keeping things the way they were before not good enough?

That had always been their reality. The only difference back then was that they had been living under the same roof. But in his eyes, she had never truly existed. Even if she had died in that house, Caleb might not have

noticed.

His brows knit. I told you, that was my fault. It will not happen again.

After a pause, he said, As for Penelope, I will cut ties with her very soon.

He was nearly certain now that Penelope had used the pendant to impersonate Precious. The thought made him want to strangle her on the spot. But what if he was wrong? That was why he had held back, waiting for Gordon’s final confirmation.

He had to know how the pendant had fallen into her hands. Had she bullied Precious, that tearful little girl who had once cried her heart out when they parted?

Sydney stared at him, stunned. What did you just say?

She had seen clearly how shamelessly he had bent over backward for Penelope. And now he claimed he would sever ties with her?

Caleb pressed his lips thin, aware his words were hard to believe. Believe me or not. I will make it happen.
