"She didn't lie to you," Henry said calmly. "The drug that cuts side effects by 50% is already in trials. Based on Sydney's past research record, it will succeed if she says it works."
Reducing side effects had never been achieved in a single step. Sydney had painstakingly tweaked and adjusted the formula, bit by bit.
Yet she possessed both talent and capability. Henry had seen each adjustment she made succeed and could not help feeling admiration.
Seeing Hugh and Wallace staring at each other in shock, Henry added deliberately, "Originally, she submitted the results under your team's name. But since it's clear you contributed nothing, the research record will credit only Sydney and Marcus."
Hugh and Wallace froze in disbelief. By the time they tried to speak, it was too late. Their earlier denials had left them no way out.
Penelope's face twisted, but after a moment she turned to Sydney with a smile that did not reach her eyes. "Since our teams will be collaborating from now on, why don't you, Ms. Wilson, share the specific details of this drug already in trials?"
The room went silent.
Her intentions were clear: she wanted the rewards without the work.
Sydney arched an eyebrow, held Penelope's shameless gaze, and said coldly, "Yes, it's joint research. But no one said you could just sit back and profit. When you can deliver results of the same standard, I won't hold anything back."
Penelope remembered well. Her eyes burned with anger and scorn as she sneered, "So what? You studied under him for only four years in university. Don't tell me you've mastered all of his medicinal skills in that short time."
Everyone knew that mastering medicine required both talent and time. Four years might allow one to fool patients in a clinic, but it was far harder in drug research, where real results mattered.
Besides, rumor had it Alan had passed his full legacy only to a mysterious protege. All others received mere scraps.
Sydney's eyes gleamed. "But have you ever thought—what if I didn't study for only four years?"
