Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 366

Penelope exhaled a shaky breath, her heart pounding in her chest like a war drum. “Keep watching,” she instructed, her voice steady but laced with urgency. “The moment anything even remotely suspicious happens, you contact me immediately.”

There was no room for error. Not a single misstep could be tolerated. Even if that insufferable woman made a mistake, Penelope had to ensure that Sydney’s drug never saw the light of day. The consequences of failure were too dire to contemplate.

After hanging up the call, she quickly glanced at the clock, feeling the weight of time pressing down on her. With a determined stride, she left the office, her mind racing with thoughts of the impending appointment. Her car sped through the city streets, carrying her to a private hospital where she had arranged to meet with a renowned gynecologist for an abortion—one that would leave no trace in the medical records.

As Sydney emerged from the hospital, her bag slung over her shoulder, she caught sight of Penelope lurking near the entrance, a shadowy figure inching toward the outpatient wing.

At first, Sydney chose to ignore her, but the moment Penelope’s piercing gaze locked onto her, she felt a shiver run down her spine.

In just a few strides, Penelope closed the distance between them, her presence commanding and intense. “What are you doing here?” she demanded, her tone sharp as a blade. “This hospital is known for its OB-GYN services. Don’t tell me you’re carrying someone’s bastard child.”

The very thought twisted Penelope’s stomach into knots. If Sydney were indeed pregnant—or worse, if the child belonged to Julian or Caleb—Penelope’s carefully constructed world would come crashing down around her.

“You’ve done your homework,” Penelope said, forcing herself to maintain an air of control, though her heart raced. “So, here today to get rid of your bastard child?”

Sydney frowned, then let out a cold laugh that sent a chill through Penelope. “I’m good friends with the hospital director. Maybe I should call her and ask her to give you a discount on your next appointment.”

The director had even been present at Sydney’s recent celebration party. Today, Sydney was here solely because the director had invited her to share her outpatient experience with the medicine department.

“You’re spouting nonsense!” Panic bubbled beneath Penelope’s composed facade, threatening to spill over. “I’ve been having palpitations. I just came for an ECG, that’s all!”

“Really?” Sydney smirked, her eyes gleaming with mischief. “There are plenty of causes for palpitations. But in your case, I have one piece of advice for you.”

“What is it?” Penelope asked, her irritation flaring.

“Do fewer guilty deeds.” With that, Sydney turned on her heel and strolled toward her white sedan, leaving Penelope seething in her wake.

Fury roiled within Penelope, her stomach tightening with each passing second. Just then, her phone rang, jolting her from her thoughts. She glanced at the caller ID and snapped, “Dr. Watson, sorry, I made a mistake. I’m not pregnant. No abortion today.”
