Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 378

Chapter 378

Sydney was a doctor, but she rarely practiced what she preached. She could list off endless health tips for her patients, yet in her own life? Sweets, ice-cold drinks, spicy food, greasy food-whatever looked good, she ate it. So, occasional stomach discomfort was nothing new.

Even so, Caleb couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. “Are you sure it’s just your stomach acting up?”

“What else could it be?” Sydney spoke as if it were nothing. “It’s not like it’s serious. I checked my pulse. I know my body.”

“If you say so.” Caleb still didn’t look convinced.

When the meal ended, he didn’t linger. He stood and left.

Sydney followed him to the door and called softly, “Yoyo, come on. Time for a walk.”

“Woof!” Yoyo leapt from the couch, grabbed his leash between his teeth, and trotted over eagerly.

Sydney bent to fasten the leash, but Tiffany frowned. “Maybe I should take Yoyo instead. What if you slip?

Yoyo might have been older, but Julian had always pampered him. He was strong, healthy, and full of energy.

“No need.” Sydney shook her head. Tiffany still had case files to finish tonight. “You focus on your work.”

Yoyo had always been gentle, but ever since Sydney got pregnant, it was as if he sensed it. When Sydney took him out, Yoyo never tugged or darted ahead. Even when other dogs bounded over to play, he stood in front of Sydney, blocking the way like a quiet guardian.

With one hand holding the leash and the other clutching a trash bag, Sydney absently pressed for the basement level in the elevator.

It wasn’t until she stepped out that she realized something was wrong. She turned back, but the elevator doors had already closed.

With a sigh, she walked outside, tossed the trash, and noticed a sleek black luxury car parked nearby. Its door suddenly swung open.
