Chapter 380
“Are you sure?” Julian asked.
Sydney nodded. “Sure. Do you want one?”
“No.”
“Alright.” Sydney nodded like a pecking bird and darted off toward the convenience store at the gate before he could say anything else.
Moments later, she returned at an easy pace, nibbling her ice cream like a content child.
From a distance, Julian watched her. His sharp eyes softened, the edges of his gaze melting into something almost tender. When she came closer, he quickly masked it.
“Good?” His voice was even and light.
“Delicious.”
“Then give me a bite.”
It was an old routine between them.
Almost by instinct, Sydney offered him the ice cream, forgetting she had only just started eating. By the time she realized what she was doing, his head was already bent, his teeth sinking into it.
It felt too intimate. She and he were not supposed to be this close anymore.
Once she paid off the penalty, and once that man from prison made his move, whatever fragile warmth lingered between them would vanish completely.
When she refocused, half her ice cream was gone. A perfect bite mark glared back at her.
‘Typical. He’s the same as ever, claiming he did not want any, letting me buy just one, then eating half anyway,’ she thought begrudgingly.
