Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 94

The surveillance footage made one thing clear: Sydney had rushed in to save someone.

Marcus continued, “As for the rest, there’s not much let to say. Penelope and Timothy entered the fire escape together. After Timothy screamed, Penelope came out from a different stairwell.

“She then took the elevator back up to the third floor, thinking she could erase the surveillance footage and pin everything on you.

“And now look–she’s facing the consequences.”

“Not necessarily,” Sydney replied lightly, smiling as she finished eating and started tidying her desk. “With Caleb backing her, she might never face any consequences at all.”

The case had already moved into litigation, pushed forward by Penelope. Whoever had hurt that child should have been held accountable. At least, that was how it should have gone.

Marcus frowned, unable to understand how anyone could love someone so blindly they ignored right and wrong. “You mean…”

“I’ll call the police first,” Sydney said, cutting him off with quiet resolve. “Let them come copy the footage.”

She needed to clear her own name before anything else.

The police arrived quickly.

Within an hour, two officers had been dispatched to Lumosa Clinic. The case wasn’t major in itself, but the Hampton family’s influence had turned it into a political minefield. The faster it was handled, the better.

One of the officers was the same woman who had taken Sydney’s statement before. She and her partner stepped out of the car almost in sync and walked up to the front desk.

Flashing her badge, she asked politely, “Hello, we’re from the Jouleston Police Department. Could you tell us where Mrs. Hampton is?”

She made sure to remain courteous throughout. In Jouleston, the last two families anyone wanted to offend were the Hamptons and the Sterlings.

“Mrs. Hampton?” the front desk nurse repeated, blinking in confusion. “Which Mrs. Hampton?”

“Caleb Hampton’s wife,” the officer clarified.

“Ah?” The nurse blinked again, stunned.

So Penelope had already married into a wealthy family? She’d always told them she and Caleb were just dating.

Grinning, the nurse said cheerfully, “She’s on the third door, in Dr. Ryan Morales’s consultation room. I’ll take you.”

Then she turned to the nurse and corrected her, “I’m looking for Mrs. Hampton, not Ms. Monroe. You may have misunderstood.”

That couple should be Caleb and Penelope. That’s what everyone had assumed.

“You’re right. We are looking for Mr. Hampton’s wife,” the officer said. “But according to our records, Mrs. Hampton is not Ms. Monroe.”

‘If it isn’t Penelope, then who?‘ the nurse wondered in bewilderment.

At that moment, a voice called from the hallway, “You’re the officers here to copy the surveillance footage, right?”

They turned and saw Sydney walking toward them.

The female officer smiled faintly. “Yes, Mrs. Hampton.”

The nurse stood frozen. A few nearby doctors and nurses stopped in their tracks, staring.

‘Wait, what? If Dr. Wilson is Mr. Hampton’s wife… then who the hell is Penelope?‘ they all wondered.
