“I heard that my brother had already escaped before the pack enforcers found him,” Isabella Blackwood continued, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. There was also a girl with my brother. It could be

Elena.”

My heart pounded against my ribs. This was information I’d never heard before.

“The family doesn’t talk about it much” Isabella added, examining her manicured nails. “Marcus suffered a

high fever and amnesia after the incident. Grandmother Margaret forbade any mention of it.”

Amnesia. Marcus had forgotten the k********g entirely. A faint joy rose from my heart.

More importantly, he’d forgotten whoever saved him.

“So Marcus doesn’t remember this girl?” I pressed, my voice barely above a whisper.

I leaned back in my chair, my mind racing. If Elena had indeed saved Marcus as a child, it would explain everything. Margaret Blackwood’s acceptance of her. The family’s protection. Their unwavering support

despite her modest background.

But if Marcus couldn’t remember, then Elena’s heroic act meant nothing to him personally.

A slow smile spread across my face. This was perfect. Marcus’s amnesia was my advantage.

“Why are you smiling like that? Isabella asked suspiciously

“Nothing,” I said quickly. “I was just thinking about something else.”

The next morning, Dr. Samuel Hartwell arrived at Moonhaven Estate carrying his medical bag. I was sitting on the edge of the bed, my shirt already removed.

“Good morning, Alpha Blackwood,” he greeted professionally. “Let’s take a look at that wound.”

“Actually,” I said, glancing toward the door, “I’d prefer if Elena handled the dressing change.”

Dr. Hartwell raised an eyebrow. “Your mate? Well, she is certainly qualified. Luna Blackwood’s healing abilities

are renowned throughout the territory.”

Elena appeared in the doorway, having heard our conversation. “That’s not necessary. Dr. Hartwell is perfectly

capable.”

“I insist,” I said firmly, my eyes meeting hers.

Dr. Hartwell gathered his supplies and handed them to Elena. “I’ll leave you to it then. The Luna’s expertise is certainly adequate for wound care.”

After he left, Elena approached reluctantly, the medical supplies in her hands.

“How is it?” I asked, watching her face carefully. “Did you feel sorry?”

She knelt before me, preparing the moonlight herb ointment. “You wouldn’t have been stabbed if you hadn’t

intervened”

Her fingers were gentle as she cleaned the wound area. I could smell her familiar scent, feel the warmth of

her breath.

“Bear with the pain,” she warned, applying the healing ointment. Im not as gentle as the doctor”

Despite her compliance, unease settled in my chest. Something about her demeanor suggested she was already mentally elsewhere.

I noticed her glance toward the calendar on the nightstand, where a red circle marked one of the dates

“What’s the significance of that date?” I asked.

Elena’s hands stilled for a moment. As she adjusted the bandage, our faces drew close. My warm breath brushed against her forehead.

She froze for several seconds, then quickly stood up. “It’s the day to change to a new car. Are yo

concerned about that?”

Her voice had softened, almost coquettish. The change in tone made me smile despite myself.

“You mentioned wanting to visit during our mating ceremony planning.” I reminded her.

She suddenly seemed to remember, her expression shifting. “But I don’t want to go to Lake Zurich anymore.”

“Where do you want to go then? Lasked.

“Nowhere,” she replied firmly. “I prefer to work like a beast of burden. A honeymoon is unnecessary a waste of time and energy.”
