Chapter 128: Confrontation and Reckoning
Chapter 128: Confrontation and Reckoning
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I slightly turned my head and sarcastically asked Marcus, “Sophia calls you that way, aren’t you quite happy?”
My mention of Sophia caused Marcus to tighten his grip on my palm. He suddenly bit my shoulder and neck
with possessive force.
I struggled in pain, trying to push him away. “Stop!”
He released me and said in a low voice, “I prefer it when you call me mate.”
I stiffened for a few seconds, then smiled coldly. “How come I didn’t know you liked that? Was I calling it out for rogues to hear before?”
His expression darkened slightly at my cutting words.
We moved to sit on the sofa as new auction items appeared on the big screen. The tension between us
remained thick and suffocating.
When a ruby necklace came up for auction with a starting price of ten million, Marcus called Amber Stone.
He instructed her to bid twenty million without hesitation.
The bidding escalated quickly to thirty million with another competitor. The entire venue buzzed with
speculation about who would dare compete with the Blackwood Consortium.
When Amber Stone asked if they should continue raising the bid, Marcus decisively said “All.”
This meant he would buy out the entire auction. The announcement caused an uproar in the venue
Other bidders respectfully withdrew, understanding they couldn’t compete with such overwhelm
All auction items went to Marcus for a total of two hundred million.

I excused myself to use the washroom and encountered Professor Hugo Ashworth in the corridor. He seemed
to be waiting for someone.
“Elena,” he said, his voice filled with concern. “You haven’t replied to my messages or taken proper leave.”
He stepped closer, studying my face carefully. “Are you truly unwell, or has Marcus done something to you?”
I remained silent, unsure how to respond without revealing too much.
“I can help you with mate bond severance proceedings,” he offered earnestly. “I have a seventy percent
chance of winning the case.”
I declined firmly, shaking my head. “I’ve learned not to trust anyone to help me.”
My voice grew bitter. “Expectations only lead to disappointment.”
Our conversation was interrupted when Amber Stone arrived looking for me. “Luna, Alpha Marcus is waiting.”
In the parking lot, Marcus placed the ruby necklace around my neck. His fingers brushed against my skin as
he fastened the clasp.
“The color suits you,” he said softly.

I touched the heavy jewels at my throat. “When can I have my phone back?”
He initially tried to buy me a new one, but I insisted. “I’m satisfied with my old phone.”
I criticized him sharply. “Don’t assume all she–wolves are like Sophia, who enjoy luxury items.”
My voice grew stronger. “If you truly want to make amends, don’t force unwanted things upon me.”
Surprisingly, he agreed and asked, “What do you actually like?”
When he finally offered my phone, he playfully demanded, “A kiss first.”
I gave him a quick peck on the cheek. He was moved by the gesture and nearly handed over the phone.
But first he made me promise. “Remove me from your blacklist.”
After receiving my phone, I replied to messages and contacted the hospital. I also noticed an apologetic text from Nathan Sterling but deleted it without responding.
Marcus noticed this message. Though he appeared calm, his demeanor became unfathomable and dangerous.
When we returned to Goldenpeak Mountain Territory, he told me, “You can return to the institute.”
I walked away without looking back, relief flooding through me.
