Chapter 140: Awakening and Revelations
Chapter 140: Awakening and Revelations
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Hugo returned to look at me in the healing chamber. He stood at the doorway for a moment, his amber eyes studying my face with an unreadable expression.
“Elena,” he called softly.
I looked up from my patient files, meeting his gaze with curiosity. “Yes?”
He hesitated, opening his mouth as if to say something important. Then his expression shifted, becoming more distant and professional.
“Just… check your medical reports carefully for any omissions before leaving,” he said finally.
I frowned as I watched him turn and walk away. His shoulders seemed tense, and there was something in his
voice that didn’t match his casual words.
Hugo had been acting strangely for the past two days. I wondered if he felt guilty about the harsh words he had spoken earlier and was now embarrassed to face me.
The way he avoided eye contact and the careful distance he maintained suggested he was struggling with something he couldn’t bring himself to say.

Meanwhile, the Parker family accompanied their daughter Sandy on a high–speed train to the Northern Territory. The rhythmic clacking of wheels on tracks filled the compartment as they traveled toward their
destination.
Clara Parker chattered incessantly throughout the journey. “Sandy, remember to speak politely when we meet these important people. Don’t slouch, and for heaven’s sake, fix your hair.”
William Parker grew impatient with her nagging. “Clara, enough. The girl knows how to behave.”
Sandy stared out the window silently, seemingly ignoring her parents words. The countryside blurred past as she reflected bitterly on her situation.
Everyone was using her for money, including “that she–wolf” who had deceived her into meeting an old man just because she herself hadn’t mated into a wealthy pack.
Her fingers clenched around her handbag as resentment built in her chest. Why couldn’t she have been born
into a better family?
The taxi arrived at a garden–style manor where the Parker family was immediately impressed by the grandeur
of the Blackwood estate. Manicured lawns stretched in every direction, punctuated by elegant fountains and
marble statues.
Sandy clutched her handbag tightly, amazed by the servants and pack guards she saw moving efficiently
across the grounds. Their uniforms were pristine, their movements coordinated with military precision.
Amber Stone emerged from the main building, her professional demeanor commanding immediate respect.

“Did Sandy fill out the compensation check?”
Sandy nodded nervously and handed over the check for eight million dollars. The Parker parents had deliberated long over this amount, considering three million too little and ten million inappropriate.
When Amber Stone accepted it without comment, they were relieved. No questions, no negotiations, just quiet acceptance of their decision.
Following Amber Stone to a pavilion in the courtyard, they saw an elegant and handsome Alpha sitting inside. His presence dominated the space even while seated casually.
“Alpha Marcus,” Amber Stone announced their arrival.
Sandy was stunned by Marcus Blackwood’s commanding presence. His golden eyes seemed to see right through her, and his perfectly tailored clothes spoke of wealth beyond her imagination.
William Parker recognized him as the boy from years ago. “You’ve grown into a fine Alpha, young master.”
Clara Parker praised his youth enthusiastically. “Such a handsome and successful Alpha at your age!”
William Parker awkwardly mentioned that their daughter had also been “hack then,” referring t some past incident involving human traffickers.
Marcus remained silent, his expression unreadable. Then he simply told them,

As they left, Sandy kept looking back at Marcus reluctantly. His powerful aura and obvious wealth made her heart race with possibilities she knew were impossible.
Her father scolded her harshly. “Powerful Alphas wouldn’t be interested in someone like you. We should take the money and leave immediately.”
Sandy’s face darkened at his words, feeling resentful toward her poor parents for holding her back. She kicked a trash can in frustration, wondering why she couldn’t have been born into a wealthy pack family.
Just then, she overheard two gardeners discussing something interesting. “The Whitmore family is searching for their long–lost daughter,” one said quietly.
Sandy’s ears perked up at this information. A wealthy family looking for a missing daughter? Her mind began
racing with possibilities.
At the bank, the Parker family verified the authenticity of the check. The marble floors and crystal
chandeliers of the prestigious financial institution intimidated them.

The bank manager confirmed it was genuine. “Alpha Marcus specifically instructed us about this
transaction.”
However, he explained that eight million was too large an amount to carry in cash. “We suggest transferring it to your account instead, which requires paperwork.”

The Parker parents eagerly agreed to the procedures, their eyes bright with dreams of their newfound wealth.

That evening, I went grocery shopping with Rachel Thompson near our apartment. The local market was bustling with pack members selecting fresh ingredients for their evening meals.
At the fish section, I encountered Hugo, who was dressed in casual light–colored clothing. He looked

impeccably clean and neat, as always.
“Salmon would be better for cooking,” he suggested, examining the fish display with his characteristic attention to detail.
The vendor mistakenly assumed we were a mated pair. “You’re so lucky to find such a handsome mate who
can cook!”
Both Hugo and I clarified quickly. “We’re colleagues,” I said, feeling heat rise in my cheeks.
The vendor persisted cheerfully. “Well, there’s still hope since you’re not properly mated!” Hugo corrected her firmly. “Elena is already mated to an Alpha

Unknown to them, Marcus’s security team was secretly watching from the shadows. Two figures in dark clothing observed the interaction from across the street, taking careful notes.
Later that night, Elena received a text from Marcus. “Don’t set the air conditioning too low. It’s getting cold.”
At a tech company’s poolside party, Marcus heard gossip about Adrian Whitmore going to Riverside City. The conversation revealed interesting details about the Whitmore family’s past.

“It’s possibly related to finding his sister rather than mating arrangements,” one pack member speculated.
Another added, “The Whitmore family supposedly lost a daughter at birth. It drove Dorothea Whitmore into mental instability.”

“Adrian believes the child wasn’t actually dead and has been searching for the truth,” a third voice chimed in.
Amber Stone approached Marcus discreetly. “Two people have been secretly monitoring Elena.”
Marcus’s golden eyes flashed dangerously. “Investigate their identities immediately.”

The next morning, I accompanied Rachel to collect her exam results. The hospital administrator smiled warmly as she handed over the paperwork.
