Chapter 84: Secrets Unveiled
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
My Personal Driver returned to the Shadow Moon Alpha’s Phantom Rolls–Royce after inquiring at the Moonstone Apothecary East Wing. He leaned in through the window, his voice low and careful.
“Alpha, she purchased a Luna’s Truth Pregnancy Test Kit.”
The words hit me like a physical blow. I remained silent for a long time, my mind racing through possibilities.
Was Elena pregnant? The thought sent conflicting emotions through me – hope, fear, confusion.
If she was carrying my child, why hadn’t she told me? The secrecy felt like another betrayal in our already
fractured bond.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Back in my healing chamber, I locked the door and pulled out the Luna’s Truth Pregnancy Test
trembling hands. The five–minute wait felt like an eternity.
When the result appeared, I exhaled in relief. Negative
Thank the moon goddess. A pregnancy would have complicated everything beyond repair, especially with the mate bond severing looming over us.
I disposed of the test carefully, ensuring no evidence remained.
Later, I went to the apothecary to get some mild moonlight herbs to regulate my stomach. The nausea from
earlier still lingered, probably from stress.
Passing by the Medical Break Room, I overheard two pack nurses talking
“Have you seen Rachel Thompson lately?” one asked.
“She resigned right after that surgery incident,” the other replied, “Just disappeared one day.”
My steps faltered. Rachel had resigned? She’d been one of the few nurses who’d shown me genuine respect.
I realized I hadn’t seen her since the day she warned me about Sophia’s actions during the anesthesia tampering incident.
Back in my healing chamber, I called Rachel’s number. No answer.
I accessed the employee records and found her residential address. She deserved to know about the job opportunity at Riverstone Medical Center.
In the afternoon, I drove to her neighborhood. The buildings were closely packed together near Moonlit Passage, and the road was too narrow for cars.
I parked and walked through the cramped alleyway. Rachel emerged from Moonlight Provisions carrying groceries, her eyes widening in ‘surprise.
“Elena? What are you doing here?”
I wanted to see how you were doing.” I said gently. “I heard about your resignation.
Rachel’s face paled. After a moment of hesitation, she gestured toward her building.
“Would you like to come up?”
At Rachel’s Safe Haven, she poured me a glass of warm water with shaking hands. The small apartment was neat but sparse.
“I’m home alone,” she explained unnecessarily.
“Rachel, I heard you resigned from the institute,” I said carefully. “Was it because of Sophia?”
She avoided my gaze, shaking her head quickly. “No, it was my own decision. I just didn’t want to continue working there.”
Her denial felt hollow, I could see the fear in her eyes.
Sensing her difficulty, I didn’t press further. Instead, I offered her something better.
“I’m transferring to Riverstone Medical Center. Would you be interested in a position there?”
Rachel looked surprised. “You’re leaving the Northern Territory?”
“Yes. The benefits aren’t as good, but it’s peaceful,” I confirmed. “Is this because of Sophia?
I paused for a few seconds, then smiled. “Sophia isn’t the primary reason. If she were, I would have left six
months ago when she returned.”
I could see the hesitation in Rachel’s eyes, the desire to continue her healing career warring with her fear.
I gave her my personal contact number. Think about it. Call me if you want to come to Riverstone.”
As I prepared to leave, Rachel finally spoke up, her voice barely a whisper.
“Elena, I have something to tell you.”
I turned back, seeing the internal struggle on her face.
“The rumors about you, she began, wringing her hands. “Sophia spread them to your parents. She wanted
them to approach you.”
My blood turned cold. “What else?”
“She orchestrated your brother’s incident too,” Rachel continued, tears forming in her eyes. “I overheard her conversation with someone she addressed very respectfully. She was forced to choose sides.”
The words hit me like physical blows. I clenched my hands tightly, nails digging into my palms.
I’d suspected Sophia was behind Richard’s death and David’s accident, but without concrete evidence,
reporting it would be futile. Especially with Marcus’s unwavering trust in her.
After a moment, I slowly unclenched my hands. “I don’t blame you, Rachel. You were threatened too, trying to protect yourself.”
“Do you remember who Sophia was talking to?” I asked.
Rachel shook her head. “I couldn’t see, but she treated the person with great respect.”
Heidi Cross immediately came to mind. The corrupt official’s wife had the connections and motivation.
Leaving Rachel’s Safe Haven, I was contemplating how to expose Heidi Cross when my phone rang. Marcus’s name flashed on the screen.

“Why aren’t you at the institute?” he asked without preamble.
Tm outside,” I replied carefully. “Why are you calling?”
“Address. I’ll pick you up.”
His sudden gesture puzzled me. When I hesitated, his tone deepened slightly.
“Are you unwilling?”
Deciding it wasn’t worth arguing, I gave him the location at Commerce District Crossroads.
“Acknowledged,” he said and hung up.
I waited at the Transit Station near the crossroads. Soon, the familiar Shadow Moon Alpha’s Phantom
Rolls–Royce pulled up beside the greenery.
I got in and fastened my seatbelt, noticing Marcus staring at me intently. His expression was inscrutable.
“Are you feeling unwell?” he asked
I paused, showing no emotion. “I’m fine. I took moonlight herbs.”
Marcus frowned but remained silent.
“Do I need to change clothes for tonight?” I asked, remembering the formality of the evening’s occasion.
Marcus leaned back in his seat and waved his hand dismissively. “No need.”
At seven o’clock that evening, we arrived at Moonstone Manor, the most prestigious establishment in the Northern Territory. I was amazed by the opulence of the Celestial Heights banquet hall.
The rental fee was over 880,000 yuan per night, and it was extremely difficult to book.
As Marcus entered, many celebrities came forward to greet him. Regional leaders and renowned professors from the Northern Territory Medical Council filled the room.
I recognized several distinguished faces from medical journals and conferences.
One middle–aged professor noticed me and asked if I was with Marcus
I smiled and nodded. “Marcus was giving me a ride.”
Marcus glanced at me and nonchalantly accepted a glass of red wine from someone, remaining silent.
I chatted with the professor and was about to toast when Marcus abruptly took my glass.
“She’s not feeling well and shouldn’t drink,” he stated firmly.
The surrounding people exchanged glances. His behavior surprised me.
I was stunned for a moment before reaching for my glass. “I’m fine to drink.”
Marcus avoided my reach and asked Server Blake to bring me warm water instead.
Others chimed in, advising me to listen to Marcus if I wasn’t feeling well.
I stared at Marcus, confused by his protective actions.
Just then, I spotted familiar figures in the crowd. Adrian Whitmore was talking with Sebastian Blackwood
and Diana Blackwood.
Chapter 84 Secrets Lived
The couple represented Shadowmere Medical Consortium, so their presence was expected.
Marcus noticed my gaze fixed on Adrian and walked over to them, putting down his glass.
Sebastian looked slightly surprised to see him. “Marcus! What a pleasant surprise.”
Marcus greeted them cordially. Sebastian then noticed me and expressed his surprise..
‘I didn’t expect to see Elena with you tonight.”
Diana also found it unexpected. In six years of marriage, she’d never seen Marcus bring his Luna to a public
event, except at Margaret Blackwood’s request.
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
I didn’t directly answer but acknowledged their surprise with a slight nod.
Sebastian laughed awkwardly. “How rare to see Marcus bring his Luna to such an occasion.”
Adrian looked at me, seemingly confused by this statement.
Diana quickly interrupted Sebastian, explaining to Adrian that Elena was the Blackwood Luna.
