Chapter 99: The Unraveling of Deception
Chapter 99: I Want Us to Start Over
“Yes, Alpha. She claimed she was staying at the hotel because she felt unwell. But her appearance suggested otherwise.”
I leaned back against the pillows, my mind racing. Sophia at Nathan’s meeting location was too much of a coincidence.
“What did she look like?” I asked.
“Her hair was messy, her clothes wrinkled. She seemed nervous, almost frightened.”
The pieces began forming a disturbing picture in my mind. I turned to Amber Stone, my voice cold with authority.
“I want you to investigate Sophia Rivers. Everything – her finances, her communications, her movements over the past six months.”
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
The following day, I was in David’s Recovery Chamber, carefully packing his belongings. Adrian Whitmore’s Security Detail waited discretely in the hallway, ready to help transport everything to Shadowmere Medical Center.
Each item I folded felt like another goodbye. David’s favorite books, the clothes Patricia had bought him, the small mementos from our childhood together. Everything that remained of our family fit into two small suitcases.
As I zipped the final bag closed, I heard voices in the corridor. Adrian Whitmore and Nathan Ste approaching, their conversation low but urgent.
I stepped out of the room, and Adrian immediately noticed my presence. “Are you ready?”
“Yes,” I confirmed, glancing at the packed bags. “Everything’s prepared.”
Adrian nodded approvingly. Tve coordinated with Dr. Vincent Cross at Shadowmere Medical Center. David will receive the best care there, and Marcus won’t be immediately aware of the transfer.”
Relief flooded through me. At least David would be safe, away from whatever schemes were still unfolding around us.
“Has Marcus agreed to the mate bond severance?” Adrian asked gently.
I shook my head. “He likely hasn’t. He believes I’m leaving him for another man, but I think when I actually leave, he’ll agree to sever our bond for Sophia.”
Adrian’s expression grew concerned. “Are you certain about that?”
“He’s wanted to be with her for years,” I said quietly. “My departure will give him the excuse he needs.”
Adrian studied my face carefully. “When you arrive at your destination, please inform me. I want to ensure you’re safe.”
“I will, I promised, grateful for his continued support.
Chapter 99 The Unravelin
“Where are you going?” Marcus’s voice cut through our conversation like a blade.
I turned to see him approaching in a wheelchair, flanked by his Elite Guards. My smile faltered as our eyes
met.
Adrian straightened, his demeanor becoming more formal. “Alpha Blackwood. I didn’t expect to see you at the
hospital so soon after your injury.”
Marcus’s golden eyes were sharp with suspicion. “I could say the same about your frequent visits, Young Master Whitmore. One might think you’re only showing such concern because you’re a prospective mate for the Blackwood family.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened. “Tm not interested in mating into the Blackwood family, Alpha. And if this matter were to become public, I believe the Blackwood family would be at fault.”
Marcus glanced at me, then back at Adrian. “Elder Theodore Sterling might have different expectations about
your involvement with my mate.”
The threat in his words was unmistakable. I stepped forward, not wanting Adrian to suffer because of his
kindness to me.
“Marcus,” I said quietly, “there’s no need for threats.”
Marcus’s attention focused entirely on me, his expression unreadable. “Elena, come here. Take me back to
my room.”
I looked at Adrian, who nodded slightly. With reluctance, I moved behind Marcus’s wheelchair and began
pushing him toward the Alpha’s Recovery Chamber.

Back in his room, I moved toward the door. “I should go.”
Marcus stood up from the wheelchair, blocking my path. His movement was careful but deter
his injury.
“Where are you in such a hurry to go?” he asked, his voice deceptively calm.
“I just want to go back,” I replied, trying to step around him.

He moved to block me again. “You visit the hospital every day to see David and Adrian, but you can’t spare at
moment for your own mate.”
The accusation stung because it was partially true. “Do you need my attention?”
“Are you heartless?” he asked, his golden eyes searching my face.
I met his gaze steadily. “My kindness has only led to tragedy. I no longer value it. And I don’t owe the Blackwood family anything after six years of this mating bond.”
Marcus’s chest rose and fell with deep breaths, as if my words had physically wounded him. “I didn’t mean it
that way. I want us to start over.”
The words I had longed to hear for so many years finally came, but now they felt hollow. Too little, too late.
