Chapter 482: ’A Spell To Forget.’

"Your Majesty, you and the prince... you..."

Delilah’s voice faltered as if saying it aloud might summon something dangerous. They were in Heinz’s chambers now, the heavy door locked, the air thick with stillness.

Heinz sat hunched on the bed, elbows to his knees, hands clawed into his hair. "Yes," he said, his tone almost biting. "We were intimate. I was drinking and then... I woke up beside him."

"That’s..." Delilah’s voice trembled, searching for safety. "It should be fine, right? You’ve been with princesses before. Even if he’s a prince—a man—he’s still part of your harem—"

"That’s not the problem."

Her words died instantly.

"Delilah..." His voice was low, sharp.

"Yes, Your Majesty?"

"I think..." He looked up at her, eyes burning in a way that made her take an involuntary step back. "I’ve been bewitched."

She blinked rapidly. "Bewitched?"

"He..." Heinz’s jaw tightened, but his voice betrayed him with a tremor. "He told me he loved me. And I—"

’I want to hear it again. I want him again. I want him always.’

"—I want to see him again. I feel the need to...hear him say those words again."

Delilah’s lips parted, but only a soft, startled sound came out.

"I don’t understand it," Heinz said, his words spilling faster, sharper. "I’ve bedded women, beautiful women. None of them—none—felt like him. Is it because he’s a man? No. No, that’s too simple."

’The first time I saw him, I thought he was too beautiful to exist. Was that when it started?’

"I remember—when I was drunk—I begged him to love me. Over and over. I wanted to hear it until it was carved into me."

Delilah froze, her eyes narrowing slightly. She had seen him ruthless, cruel, amused—but never like this. Never this raw.

"Your Majesty," she said carefully, "it sounds like you... have feelings for the prince."

The words slammed into him. He flinched, then laughed once—too sharp to be humor, even though he already felt like that was the case.

Feelings? Love?

No. No. Absolutely not.

Love was a sickness. It rotted. It consumed.

"This is good, isn’t it? I never thought you’d—"

"How do I get rid of it?" The question cracked through the air like a whip. Heinz stood, closing the space between them, his hand gripping her arm.

His pupils were blown wide, his voice shaking with barely-contained panic.

"Your Majesty, why would you—"

"Love killed my mother," he hissed, leaning closer. "Love made my father forget she existed. Forget I existed. I finally have the throne, and now—" He stopped, his breath catching.

’And now Florian’s smile is in my head, burning me alive.’

"...now my heart aches when I think of him. I can’t—Delilah, I can’t. I will not fall like they did."

Delilah’s gaze softened, though there was worry in it now. She placed a steady hand on his shoulder, but it did little to ground him. "It’s moments like these... you really remind me of her."

His chest tightened painfully. "And that’s why it has to go. This... thing—" His voice cracked, the desperation spilling through. "Tell me how to kill it before it kills me."

Because Heinz knew what this was.

And that was exactly why he hated it.

He hated loving Florian.

And he hated that a part of him never wanted to stop.

Delilah was silent, eyes narrowing slightly as if combing through memories she had locked away. Heinz waited, every second stretching like glass about to crack.

Then her gaze sharpened. "There was something... your mother once mentioned. I remember it clearly. In the Obsidian Archive, there should be a book."

"A book?" Heinz’s voice was incredulous. "How is a book going to—"

"It’s a book of ancient and illegal spells," Delilah interrupted, her tone low, almost conspiratorial. "She told me once that she wished she could forget your father... but feared what else she’d lose along with him. That book... it contains many spells—one of them, I believe, can erase memories."

"Erase memories?" Heinz’s brows knitted together. "Why have I never heard of this?"

"I heard every king is tasked with keeping it a secret. Even for members of the Obsidian royal family, using that book is forbidden—it’s too powerful, too dangerous. In the past, Arcaniors used the magic within it freely." Her voice darkened. "But greed poisoned them. They abused the spells. The Gods grew furious. That is why Concordians are now bound by mana stones... why only you can wield magic without them—and even you are stronger with them."

Heinz’s mind raced. ’Magic that could make me forget...’

"Why did Mother know about it then?"

"Your grandfather told her," Delilah said quietly. "She never knew why."

Heinz stepped back, dragging a hand through his long black hair. "Alright." The word came out rough, decisive. "I’ll look for that book immediately."

Delilah’s lips pressed together. "Are you sure this is wise, Your Majesty?"

"Yes." The answer was instant, sharp enough to cut. "I can’t fall for him." I won’t let this turn me into her. His eyes locked onto hers. "And you... you are the only one who can know of this. Once I forget—never remind me again."

Delilah exhaled slowly, the weight of his command settling over her. She bowed her head. "As you wish."

Heinz didn’t answer. His mind was already unraveling the threads. ’Before my regression...
