Please Give Me Another Chance, Mrs. Hamilton novel Chapter 467

The name "Jack Clarke" was like a thorn embedded deep in Nadine's heart.

For six long years, she had tried to forget Jack and everything related to him. She'd even persuaded herself to treat Brad as if he were Jack and give him all of her love. But in the end, no matter how hard she tried, a replica could never replace the real thing.

Nadine had tried to love Brad—to see him as Jack. Thus, six years slipped by in a haze, until the moment Sophie uttered his name. It then dawned on her that some things were simply irreplaceable.

Had Sophie not been holding her hand, she would have broken down. Her rough, weathered hands were clasped around hers. It felt as if coarse tree bark was scraping against her skin, and it stung a little.

But that prickling sensation kept her sane. It reminded her that there were some things Sophie should never know.

Nadine bit the inside of her cheek hard, fighting back tears and forcing a smile. "What are you on about, Grandma Sophie? Jack's doing just fine! He's on a top-secret mission that requires him to keep a low profile. But he did send me a message just the other day!"

At that moment, she was thankful for the veil of Sophie's poor vision, for it kept her from seeing the tears in the corners of her eyes.

Sophie's face lit up when she heard her grandson had sent Nadine a message. "Oh? Jack sent you a message? That's good to hear! He's allowed to not call or write me, but you're his wife! If he doesn't even send a message to his wife, I'll give him a piece of my mind!"

Squeezing Nadine's hand, she asked, "So, what did he write to you?"

As soon as she stepped out of Sophie's ward, her tears began to fall. Not wanting anyone to see her like that, she rushed to the emergency exit, hid behind the door, and covered her mouth, weeping softly.

"It's been six years, Jack. If you're watching over us from Heaven, please help Grandma Sophie get through her surgery successfully," she silently prayed.

Nadine was sobbing now. "How have you been in these six years? Have you found peace? I've been doing well, so please don't worry about me," she murmured.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she thought about their past, and an overwhelming sadness washed over her. Nadine had never truly recovered from Jack's death until she met Brad, a man who looked so much like him.
