Fortunately, Nadine didn't care about those rumors and wasn't affected at all.
Brad caught on and nodded. "You're absolutely right, Grandpa. I'll make sure to spend more time with you guys."
Adam was so pleased with his grandson's response. "That's my boy! Now remember to visit me more often in the hospital!"
It was obvious what his grandfather was up to. Nadine worked at the hospital and frequently visited Adam. So, whenever he went to see his grandfather, he would have an opportunity to run into Nadine. His grandfather was practically paving the way for him.
Brad agreed readily. "I will, Grandpa. Just as long as you don't get sick of seeing me."
While the conversation between them flowed effortlessly, Nadine, who sat beside Brad, felt increasingly uncomfortable. She knew that if Brad started visiting Adam regularly, she would inevitably have to see him more. The thought of seeing her ex-husband filled her with dread.
Even though she despised Brad, there was nothing she could do about it. He was Adam's grandson, so it was only natural for him to visit the hospital. Strictly speaking, she was the outsider in this situation.
What could she do—stop Brad from visiting his own grandfather? That would be ridiculous!
Alex had once told him, "Patience is key when it comes to pursuing a woman. If you're too eager, you'll end up fumbling. It's like a slow game of endurance—you need to gradually wear her down. Once she can't take it anymore, that's when you strike, and you'll get exactly what you want."
Even though he didn't fully grasp the meaning behind those words, he knew that he needed to take things slow with Nadine. Hence, when she backed away, he didn't make any more moves.
When he made no further attempt to close the distance, she let out a quiet sigh of relief. Honestly, she was terrified of being so close to Brad. Whenever he got too close, her heart would race.
Dressed in a black suit, no tie, and with a band-aid at the corner of his mouth, he was a far cry from the stern figure she was used to. In the past, he seemed so aloof and untouchable, but now he looked down-to-earth and strangely approachable.
