Before Brad confronted Jean about those compromising photos, he had already begun to doubt the woman who had once held his world together. He had also started to think about distancing himself from her.
Brad was no fool. When Jean had slipped into his bed at Phoenix Villa while he was ill, scheming to make his entire family believe they'd spent the night together, he hadn't understood her motives. But later, he figured it out.
Did she ever stop to think about the consequences of using him like that? Did she really believe that, once he discovered the truth, he wouldn't want to cut her out of his life?
Yet, she went ahead and did it anyway. It showed that Jean had been using him all along. Even though she claimed to love him, her actions told a different story.
After dropping Jean off that day, Brad had a long talk with his father, during which they discussed his past relationship with Jean.
Rather than badmouthing Jean, Daniel listed everything she had done since her return to the country, leaving Brad to draw his own conclusions. Daniel even went as far as to analyze specific incidents from Brad and Jean's past together.
Daniel simply told Brad to think it over and get some rest when he was done. At that time, Brad wasn't just disappointed, he was heartbroken.
Six years ago, Jean had invited him to meet at Palace Restaurant. She told him that Adam was forcing her to leave and that she would never be able to return to Janctera City again. She wanted to see Brad one last time and give herself to him.
Adam's eyes narrowed as realization hit him. He sighed before he said, "Let's talk about what happened six years ago. Back then, did that young lady from the Sawyer family tell you that I forced her to leave Janctera City? That she had no other choice?"
As the past was dredged up, those long-forgotten memories gradually became clear. Brad pondered for a moment before responding, "Yes, that's what she said. She told me you were against us being together, that you didn't want me marrying the daughter of a commoner."
No sooner had he answered Adam than a searing pain shot through Brad's heart. It felt like a thousand needles were being driven into his chest.
Adam shook his head, his eyes filled with disappointment. "And you just took her word for it? Brad, you were in such bad shape back then. If you had wanted the moon, I would've moved Heaven and Earth to get it for you. Why would I have a problem with you marrying a girl?"
