It didn't take long for him to notice something was amiss. Nadine hadn't moved an inch, silently expressing her reluctance.
He noticed the disdain in her eyes just then, and it instantly brought him back to six years ago, when she had just married him. He had looked at her the exact same way back then. All of a sudden, it felt as if countless needles were piercing his chest, driving into his heart all at once.
Fearing he might upset her, Brad hastily let go of her hand and plastered a smile on his face as he apologized to Nadine, "My bad, I completely forgot that I was still holding onto you. I hope you won't let it bother you."
Nadine watched as he pulled away, nodded, and responded apathetically, "It's fine." Then, she walked past him without so much as a second glance.
An indescribable feeling welled up inside Brad as he glanced at her slender figure, and then his now-empty hand. Was it regret? Sorrow? He wasn't sure, but he found his past self utterly detestable. Why hadn't he treated Nadine better six years ago?
Nadine couldn't care less about this scumbag who was attempting to weasel his way back into her good graces.
She kept reminding herself that the reason he was acting so gentlemanly and considerate was simply because she had come to her senses and no longer wanted to wait on him hand and foot. He finally realized that he was losing her, and by extension, his easy life.
Hence, she was determined not to make the mistake of going back to him. "Don't ever fall for this man again, Nadine Scott. He's the reason behind all your unhappiness!" she reminded herself.

The weather in Janctera City took a turn for the worse after New Year's Day. As the days went by, the cold seeped into everyone's bones.
After peeling the apple, Lynn tossed the skin into the trash and began slicing the fruit. "I've tried to call him, but he didn't pick up."
She continued, "I have a feeling he might've blocked my number. Ms. Sawyer, why don't you… ask Madam Evelyn or Ms. Hamilton for help? They're Mr. Hamilton's family, after all. No matter what happens, blood is blood—he wouldn't do anything against them."
Her words gave Jean an idea. Evelyn might not be able to help her right now, but Gigi could. If Gigi brought her to Phoenix Villa, Brad wouldn't be able to stop them.
With that thought in mind, she immediately grabbed her phone and called Gigi. "Gigi, it's me, Jean! How've you been? Everything alright?"
