Even though David loved money, he was afraid of taking risks. In this situation, if Brad threatened him with Jennifer to make him let go of Nadine, he certainly wouldn't comply.
Nadine was his golden goose, while Jennifer was of no use to him. If not for the fact that she gave him a son, he would've kicked her to the curb a long time ago.
Everyone else's wives did it all—laundry, cooking, looking after the kids, housework, and earning money. Jennifer, on the other hand, could only handle a bit of housework and struggled with everything else. If it weren't for him, she would have starved to death on the streets by now.
However, if Brad really did threaten him with Jennifer, he couldn't just look the other way. Hence, he impatiently called out to Brad, demanding that he let Jennifer go.
Brad scoffed, showing no intention of letting his bodyguard release Jennifer. He sneered, "I can let her go, but you'll have to let Nadine go first!"
Brad genuinely thought David was far too dull for his own good. He was simply too greedy. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too. How could someone expect to win on every front?
David was furious at Brad's response. "She's your mother-in-law! We'll be seeing each other often. Aren't you worried she'll hate you?"
Brad's attitude infuriated him. He and Jennifer were supposed to be respected as his elders. Yet, not only did Brad disrespect him, but he also held Jennifer captive. This was unacceptable!
"Look, your father-in-law isn't someone with a good temper. Nadine is safe in his hands. As long as you let me go and give us the money, we'll still be a family. Please, just let me go."
Brad glanced at her and couldn't help but chuckle. "Birds of a feather flock together. You're just as shameless as the Gentrys. Nadine's so unlucky to have a mother like you!"
It was no wonder that in the six years they'd been married, Nadine never once brought up her family. He had always thought she was cold and unfeeling, someone who didn't care about her family.
But now, he understood. With parents like these, she was better off without them. He couldn't blame her for cutting ties with them.
