Evelyn sighed when she noticed Brad turn away and refuse to talk to her. "Get some rest. I'll go home and make the soup." The sound of her high heels clicking against the floor faded as she left the room, and the door closed behind her, leaving only Brad and Nadine.
Nadine found herself at a loss under his unusually tender gaze. She averted her gaze, staring down at her toes instead. She tried to pull her hand away, but the man lying in bed suddenly hissed in pain.
Startled, she froze and hurriedly asked, "Did I pull on your wound? Does it hurt?"
Brad smiled gently. "Hold still. I want us to stay like this."
He then tightened his grip on her hand. "Let me sleep a little longer."
The anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, so it was normal for him to drift in and out of sleep. With that, he fell back into a deep slumber.
Nadine glanced at Brad, who was already fast asleep, feeling conflicted. At that moment, she wanted to pull her hand back and sever all ties with him. But he had just gotten seriously hurt because of her. If she turned her back on him now, she'd be heartless—and that just wasn't who she was.
From a young age, she had learned the importance of gratitude and repaying kindness. Brad hadn't even asked for anything in return, yet here she was, already thinking of distancing herself from him. That just didn't sit right with her. Thus, she decided to stay at the hospital that night to look after him.
Looking at his peaceful, sleeping face, she tried to withdraw her hand but couldn't. Even though he wasn't holding on tightly, she just couldn't pull away. After several failed attempts, she had no choice but to let him be.
Since that punk had genuinely fallen for Nadine, any sufferings he endured were justified. And seeing how much Nadine cared for Brad… Adam could tell there was definitely something brewing between them.
Noticing Nadine's distress, Daniel chimed in, "Nadine, this is something he had to do. Don't feel guilty about it. It's getting late. I'll take Grandpa back to his room, and I'll watch over Sean tonight. You stay here and take care of Brad."
Before she could even begin to respond, Daniel left with Adam.
Left alone with Brad, Nadine looked around the room, feeling a headache coming on.
