Why should Nadine have to put up with Jean? Jean was Brad's true love, not hers. Brad might not have the heart to hit her, but Nadine certainly did!
Nadine swung her hand with all her might, and in an instant, half of Jean's face swelled up. It was so severe that it made her eye appear smaller.
Clutching her swollen face, Jean glared menacingly at Nadine. "I was the one who met Brad first! You're the one who stole him from me, you wretched woman!"
She had nothing left and was sick. Without Brad, how could she possibly survive? No matter what, she had to fight for him.
"What does it matter that you met him first? Don't you know that those who arrive later can still overtake those who were there first? Who are you calling your man? Is he just your property? He never claimed to be your man, so why are you slapping labels on him?"
Nadine couldn't help but think Jean was delusional and had no intention of indulging her. "Sure, you dated Brad. But that just makes you his ex-girlfriend at best. Meanwhile, I'm his lawfully wedded wife.
"Even an idiot can see who's closer to him. You're just a disgraceful mistress. What are you trying to show off—your ignorance or your insanity?"
Nadine had genuinely believed that since Brad had saved her, she should repay him. But who would have thought that this was what she got in return?
Brad really knew how to play the game. He had intentionally called Jean over just to get under Nadine's skin. Had she known Jean would show up, she wouldn't have bothered staying here to take care of him.
However, Nadine wasn't backing down. If anything, she tightened her grip even more. As a healthcare professional, she knew exactly where to squeeze to inflict the most pain, and she wasn't holding back one bit.
Overwhelmed by the pain, Jean couldn't find her voice and bent over. In the end, she pleaded, "Please let go of me, Nadine! It hurts so much! I'm a patient, remember?"
Evelyn, who had been holding Brad down, noticed that Jean was losing the fight. Ignoring her son, who was drenched in cold sweat from the pain, she rushed over to Nadine and slapped the back of her hand hard. "Let Jean go. I said to let go! Didn't you hear me?"
Nadine's hand instantly turned bright red and swollen from the slap.
