Please Give Me Another Chance, Mrs. Hamilton novel Chapter 650

Nadine wasn't in the mood to entertain Victoria's bullshit. She grabbed her by the hair and shoved her against the cold, hard wall.

"Who do you think you are? Do you think I'm doing this because I have nothing better to do? If it weren't for your brother, I wouldn't spare you a glance even if you were lying dead at my feet! He entrusted you to me, and I have to look after you because that's what I promised him!

"Listen up, Victoria Clarke. From now on, you're not going to school anymore. You're going to stay here and take care of Grandma Sophie. And I'll see to it that you have food on the table.

"Of course, you could choose to ignore me and go wherever you please, but remember this: the moment you decide to leave, you'll have nothing to do with Grandma Sophie anymore, and you won't be a part of the Clarke family any longer!

"When you die someday and meet your older brother in the afterlife, you can tell him everything you've done, and we'll see if he'd still acknowledge you as his younger sister!"

Nadine was usually a very patient person. She would never have an outburst unless one crossed the line. However, Victoria had truly tested her patience. If it weren't for Jack, Nadine wouldn't have cared at all whether Victoria lived or died.

Nadine was furious, yanking Victoria's hair with such force that it made her scalp throb with pain. Victoria had never seen Nadine this angry before, and the sight of her rage made her a lot more compliant.

After being on the receiving end of Nadine's harsh scolding, Victoria's rebellious spirit dimmed. With tears in her eyes, she huffed a couple of times before muttering, "That's easy for you to say… Do you even have the money to put food on my table? Or are you counting on your ex-husband?"

Nadine slapped her again. "Just focus on taking care of Grandma Sophie. That's not something you need to worry about!"

Realizing that she had subdued Victoria, Nadine let go of her and went to wait on a bench outside the emergency room. Before she could even settle into the seat, the emergency room door swung open. "Where is Sophie Wilkinson's family?"

"Nad, I know you've been through a lot of hardships over the years. It's my fault for not protecting you better, and I'm truly sorry for all your suffering.

"Nad, Victoria's immature. Please don't let her get to you. If she needs a slap or a scolding, give it to her. If she listens, take care of her. If she doesn't, you can cut her out of your life.

"You mustn't let Victoria know what I'm about to tell you. I've tucked a box away on the floor beneath the bed in the old house, just for you. Here's the key."

At this point, Sophie was struggling to breathe. She fumbled to grab the red string around her neck, but before she could touch the key, her hand fell heavily back down.

Just like that, Sophie was gone forever.
