Daniel seemed helpless as he shook his head. "Jean's been on her best behavior recently, hasn't stirred up any trouble, and has been taking good care of Brad.
"Plus, it's the New Year. Her parents aren't around, and the poor girl's all alone. Evelyn pitied her, and honestly, it's just one meal. I'll let her do what she wants."
He continued, "I've already told her that Jean has to leave after dinner. No exceptions. And if it comes down to it, she can sit with the other family members instead of us."
As soon as his words fell, distant relatives began to pour into the residence.
"Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year, Grandpa!"
With so many people around, Adam felt it wasn't the right time to speak up. Plus, it was just one meal. There was no way Jean could cause any serious trouble.
A lot of people came to wish Adam a happy new year, and as more guests arrived, the house became even livelier. When Gigi brought Jean in, someone spotted them right away and rushed over to get Jean's attention. "It's been a while, Ms. Sawyer! You look prettier than ever!"
Jean beamed at the compliment. "You look lovely as well today."
Nadine was at a loss for words. After giving it some thought, she explained, "Baby, I only have enough love for you, so just one of you is plenty! if I had another, it would take away some of the love I have for you. You wouldn't want that, would you?"
Brad was still watching her intently from behind, which made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She couldn't come up with a better answer for Sean, so that was all she could muster.
Sean, however, didn't seem to buy it. "Keira said every mommy loves their kids unconditionally. How could you not love me, Mommy? Besides, if I had a little sister, you'd have one more person to love you! Wouldn't that be a good thing?"
Nadine was stumped. Noticing her struggle, Brad walked over and patted the little guy's shoulder. "It's not that simple, buddy. Your Mommy can't have another baby on her own."
