Once she was back in the small room, Nadine looked at Sean, who was still fast asleep. She felt her racing heart begin to settle.
She had no idea what the Hamiltons were going through at that moment, but she couldn't shake the feeling that what that woman said might be true. If the Hamilton family was facing a crisis, how could she get them out of this situation?
The female officer noticed her return and figured that negotiations had fallen through. "Ms. Scott, the other party is wealthy and influential. I suggest you accept their terms and just endure it. I just got word that I'll be transferred to a different post, so someone else will take over watching you."
Although she didn't spell it out, Nadine understood what she meant. That woman did have the power to control everything, and she'd arranged for this kind officer to be reassigned just to make her suffer that night. But at that moment, she had no way to escape, no place to hide—she'd just have to tough it out.
…
The northern wind howled that night, causing the branches to rattle and creak. Occasionally, the calls of unknown birds would echo, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the night.
Having gone without sleep for a day and a night, Nadine drifted off in a daze, curled up on the small bed with Sean in her arms, much like a child who didn't feel safe in her environment.
The sound of heavy footsteps echoed from outside, growing closer and closer to the room where she and Sean lay. Her sleep was fragile, and the noise stirred her. So, she opened her eyes.
The men had dragged her over with an overwhelming strength. She was no match for them. If they wanted to kill her, it would be easier than stepping on an ant.
"What are we going to do? Well, that depends on you!" One of them bent down, lifting her chin as he looked at her with a sly grin, his eyes glinting like a predator sizing up its next meal.
"So, you're not going to apologize, huh? Alright, then. We'll just have some fun with you! Don't worry, we won't hit you or reprimand you. We're just here to take some photos. After all, who wouldn't want to see Brad's woman?"
As they joked among themselves, they reached out to tug at Nadine's clothes. Terrified, Nadine felt like an animal trapped in a cage, struggling fiercely against them.
