Realizing that Nadine was determined to get rid of him, Brad hastily scrambled for another excuse.
"Yes, I do have a diamond-tier membership with this hotel, but I left Janctera City in such a rush that I forgot to bring the card. It's not my fault."
Nadine rolled her eyes at his poor excuse. "Mr. Hamilton, the next time you make up an excuse, could you at least put some effort into it? You don't need to carry the card around. All you have to do is give the receptionist your name. So, please, stop lying to me!"
Brad was at a loss for words. The truth was, he didn't want to leave. He wanted to spend more time with Nadine. Was that really so wrong?
But she was looking at him as if he were some kind of wild beast that she wanted to stay miles away from, and it irked him.
"Fine!" he snapped. "I'll admit it! I don't want to leave this room. I want to stay here with you and Sean! I want Sean to see his dad as soon as he wakes up!"
Nadine stiffened in disbelief. What the hell? Did Brad just... admit to something? Was she hearing things, or was this man up to something else?
There was no way this was the Brad she knew. The man she knew was aloof, cold, and arrogant. He would never, under any circumstances, bare his feelings so openly.
"What did you just say? I dare you to say it again, Nadine Scott!" he said through gritted teeth, his eyes blazing with fury.
Nadine could tell he was furious. But why should that matter to her? They were divorced, after all. His feelings were no longer her concern.
Even with her chin forced upward, she met his gaze without a hint of fear. Her almond-shaped eyes shone with defiance as she enunciated each word clearly. "I said to please stay away from me. I still have a long life ahead, and I plan to get married to someone else!"
For a moment, the room fell deathly silent.
