Ellie
This is the first time A guy has driven me home.
“Is that where you live?” Maddoc nods up at a house on the street. His hands grip the steering wheel like it has personally offended him, and he has been driving so fast that I want to get out.
“Y-yeah,” I say, still shaken from his driving. “But you don’t have to drive all the way up—”
“Why not?”
I let out a nervous laugh. “Because if my roommates see you, they’ll totally freak.”
He turns his head. Raises an eyebrow. Then asks, “They fans or something?”
“Fans?”
He shrugs like it’s obvious. “I’m kind of a big deal on campus.”
Oh god. “Y-you are?”
“Yeah.”
Wow. Confident much?
I swallow. “Well, that’s not the reason.”
“Then what is?”
My cheeks heat. “It’s nothing. Just forget it.”
He exhales, clearly not planning to drop it. “Out with it, Ellie.”
I squeeze my eyes shut. “Okay, fine… I’ve never brought a guy home before. And my roommates… they’re going to flip.”
He parks anyway. Of course he does.
“I’m coming in.”
“What? No—seriously, you don’t have to—”
Too late. He’s already out of the car. Then he is grabbing my bag like he owns it and has been here before. Like he is the one living here. I hurry after him, jogging to keep up with his long strides.
“You can just leave, really—”
He doesn’t respond. Just walks right up to the door, opens it, and steps into our apartment like he’s been invited.
The door shuts behind us.
Footsteps.
And then… Ciara.
Oh no.
She struts into the hallway and leans against the wall. Eyes moving up and down like she is eating Maddoc with her gaze. She is also holding her hand dramatically on her chest like she’s in a soap opera.
“Oh my,” she drawls, eyes still dragging over Maddoc. Then she grins at me, full-on evil. “Ellie, are you dating Maddoc Daniels now?”
Kill. Me. Now.
Ciara knows damn well I’ve never dated anyone. She’s doing this just to humiliate me. And the gleam in her eye tells me she’s loving every second of it.
I already want to cry.
And then Zendra shows up.
Great.
“Well hello there,” she purrs, practically devouring Maddoc with her eyes. “Didn’t know our shy little roommate was besties with the Dashing Devils quarterback.”
Quarterback?!
Why am I just finding this out now?!
I glance at Maddoc, expecting him to smirk.
He doesn’t. He smiles. But it’s… suspiciously fake.
“Ellie and I are best friends,” he says smoothly. “In fact—”
He picks me up.
Yep. Just lifts me right off the ground like I weigh nothing.
My legs wrap around him on instinct. His cologne hits me full force. And then—
Then he kisses me.
Not a polite, awkward first kiss.
A real one.
Maddoc freaking Daniels kisses me like he means it. Tongue, heat, the whole thing. My brain is not functioning. I forget how to breathe.
And… oh god, he’s good.
I feel goosebumps ripple down my arms. I might have hated this guy yesterday, but now?
Now I’m melting.
When he pulls away, I’m dazed. Literally breathless.
