Lydia gave a light, careless smile. “Since when have they ever cared about me? They’ve never even tried to understand me.”
Mrs. Smith reached over and held Lydia’s hand, her eyes shining with worry and affection. “Lyds, you’ve put up with so much. If you hadn’t been quietly fixing their messes and keeping the company afloat all these years, Smith Corporation would have collapsed long ago. And this is how they repay you. The moment they find their real daughter, they just toss you aside. It’s my fault, Lyds… I should have done more.”
Jenson and Milana walked around acting like they were business prodigies, always bragging about being Lakeview Town’s wealthiest family. They had no clue that their success was all because Lydia had been working behind the scenes, covering for them and making sure everything didn’t fall apart.
“Grandma, none of this is your fault. I’m done with them. We’re nothing to each other now.”
Mrs. Smith let out a long, heavy sigh. “After everything they’ve done, you don’t need to worry about them anymore. Let them see what they’re really capable of without you.”
Lydia nodded gently. “Okay, Grandma. I’ll go and get these golden deer antlers ready for you. I’ll make them into pills so you can take them easily.”
She had planned to do the extraction back in the Capital and bring the pills here, but with everything happening at Greenward Power and her grandfather’s health, she just hadn’t had a spare moment. Thankfully, she had a little herb lab here, which made things a lot easier.
Mrs. Smith’s face softened as she nodded. “Alright, dear.”
Meanwhile, outside the house, Milana, Jenson, and Sandy were still fuming as they stepped out the front gate. They immediately noticed a sleek silver Lamborghini parked nearby. Inside the car, Connor sat in the passenger seat with the interior lights on, his head resting against the back of the chair, eyes closed. Even with his eyes shut, his looks were so striking it was almost hard to believe he was real.
Sandy leaned in close to her mother and whispered, “Mom, there’s no way that guy is her driver. He must have fallen for her tricks too. Why else would he spend so much money on my sister? There’s no way she could afford those golden deer antlers on her own.”
