Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 168

Rose snapped, her voice raw and desperate.

“Why do you get to be born above everyone else? Why do you get to be the billionaire’s wife while I can’t even manage to marry a small-time CEO? Why does your husband still love you like when you first got married, while mine takes everything I do for granted? Why are your kids all shining stars, adored by everyone, while my son can’t even get his act together?

“Kylie, we went to the same school. We grew up side by side. Why does fate always favor you and treat me so coldly? Why?”

Rose’s screams broke down into sobs. She dropped to the floor, clutching her head as she cried her heart out.

No one really knew what it was like for her, being Kylie’s friend all these years, always feeling the pressure of living in her shadow. She hated it. She hated how unfair life was. And deep down, she hated Kylie for being the lucky one.

Kylie just stood there, shocked. She never imagined Rose saw her this way. She felt a rush of emotion, like something heavy pressing down on her chest. The room started spinning and for a second she thought she might pass out.

Lydia rushed over and caught her just in time. “Mom,” she called softly, steadying her.

Kylie’s breath came in short, shaky bursts. She couldn’t believe she’d ever thought Rose was a real friend. The betrayal stung more than she wanted to admit.

Lydia’s eyes turned sharp as she glared at Rose, who was now rocking back and forth, laughing and crying all at once like she’d lost her mind.

“Not everyone is born into a life of luxury,” Lydia said, her voice cool but steady. “Some people have it easier, some don’t. But when one door closes, life opens another window. You can’t spend your life obsessed with what’s fair or unfair. If you keep fixating on what you lack, you’ll never be happy or see what good you do have.

“Sometimes, you work hard and don’t see results right away. That doesn’t mean your efforts are wasted. Just give it time. You’ll be rewarded in other ways. But some people never get that. Instead of working on themselves, they waste all their energy chasing after some imaginary fairness. All they get is more exhaustion and more bitterness.

“Honestly, the worst thing you can do is spend your whole life blaming the world instead of learning how to actually live.”

Lydia’s words echoed in the room, clear and unwavering. She gently helped Kylie out of the interrogation room.
